Ar-15 Kaboom.

Did he load a grenade by accident? On a serious note, that rifle needs a good cleaning! Glad to hear he wasn't hurt, but at the same time, how the hell was he not hurt? I've seen and dealt with quite a few misfires, but this one takes the cake.
 
It looks like the safety structure held together.
Note the front of the mag well was not deformed.
Also, the hand guard is intact.
The rifle failed as it was designed to under such parameters.
 
Good ol' out of battery discharge. Any rifle will look that dirty exposed to that much escaping gas. Whether it was grime that held it in an oob state is the question. I highly doubt it 'failed as designed'. It failed like a Liebral government fails... completely and thoroughly.
 
I don't understand.
If it was a squib load the the bullet was lodged in the barrel, why did the barrel not self-disassemble?
Looks like the round fired out of battery.

I would imagine that the outside enclosure of the bullpup would contain the gas and debris that would be caused by something like this.

But yeah, sure makes you think about putting your kisser right up to the action.

he rifle incorporates various patented safety features, such as a Kevlar cheek plate and overpressure vent that protects the shooter in the event of a chamber explosion or catastrophic failure.

IIRC as well the Steyr AUG has a large steel plate between the shooter and the receiver in the case of a kaboom and was designed to vent forward.

Never mind that in a properly specced AR15 it's impossible for the firing pin to reach the primer if the lugs are out of battery.

And did you guys not read?

When he was shooting this time he fired a round and went to shoot again but nothing happened, he pulled the mag out and pulled the bolt to the rear and a spent shell case came out. He looked into the chamber and didn’t see anything so he reinstalled the mag then chambered the next round and pulled the trigger.

I dunno, sounds pretty much like a squib round to me, not an out of battery.
