I think the other way with yotee, was originally a USA term, while the older Canadians nearly always was ki yote.

I can't believe it!! Three pages an nobody has mentioned the real reason.

The correct term is ki-ote. The only reason anybody calls them ki-O-tee's is because the Bug's Bunny cartoon character was given the name Wyle E. Coyotee, and ki-O-tee stuck. So much so I think it's the more common pronunciation.
