Sounds like you're well on your way. Check Ellwood Epps they have a Puma 92 in .45lc about $685. Frontier is usually cheaper by about $100 but right now they only have a .44 and a .357mag. I would recomend that if you're getting a Puma get the kit from Nate Kiowa Jones they really do work wonders with those guns. Here's the link.

Two of my buddies just had the gun done using this kit they are really happy, mine is going in next for the same job. Expect to spend about $60 for the kit then another $200 for the slicking up job. But worth every penny.

I just checked the exchage for hunting and sporting , on the 12th there was one for sale at about $450. Check it out

Unfortunately I think that I bought the last .357. But the 44's are going for $585.

.44 loads

I am using 240gr RNFP from MT Chambers (Ben Hunchak) and 7.2gr of Unique. I tried 6.6gr but found them a little anemic for me. I still like a little punch, it is a .44.
 
What bullet weight are most people shooting in their 45's

I have 250s right now but was thinking of going with 180's for my revolvers and 230's for the rifle.

Any help here guys.

Oh by the way I now have all my guns and holster.
Thinking of my persona now.

I cant speak for everyone else, but I tend to follow the basic keep it simple strategy. I load everything the same and keep all the guns the same caliber. Then there are no problems with grabbing the wrong ammo and standing at the loading table fussing about.

Stick with the same bullet and load for the rifle and revolver. 250 Gr RNFP.
As for your alias, Fat Bastard is pretty cool, but since SASS shooting is family orientated, the "Bastard" might be frowned upon. You can clearly see MY SASS alias from two of the best westerns.

I also shoot all the same ammo in Revolvers and in my rifle. The KISS Principal apply here as well! Less chances of a screw up and no muss no fuss at the loading table.
Work up something that suits you and stick to it!

BUY whatever cheap crap some turkey unloads on you ,whine about it for a year and a half . Then go get some good stuff that you did not listen to us EXPERTS about in the first place . WHY should you be different from the rest of us.
 
I've been shooting Cowboy for the last 15 years. Still learning. I started out with Ruger Vaqueros in 45Lc with a Marlin 94 Cowboy and an original 97. Used this set up, same loads for both revolvers and rifle, for the next 4 years. I have had many of my friends tell me to switch to 38's, they're faster, much faster! I now shoot second gen 45 Colts, a Marlin 94 competition and my trusty Winchester 97. I refuse to change to 38's. I won't be on top but I will have fun and lots of it. People who get too serious tend to forget why we are in this dicipline in the first place. You will meet many new friends who will actually be your friends. What you shoot for guns may change in the future, having fun and enjoying yourself with your friends hopefully will not change. Welcome to the best shooting sport I have ever been involved with.

Come shootin with what you can afford. My wife & I started out sharing 2 used Rugers 1 new Win94 (p.o.s.) and an old Win 97. We bought another set of used pistols & traded the 94 for a Marlin over the next couple of years. Since then we have traded for different & newer equipment (mostly Uberti). All except that old original 97 purchased from B Slim 9 years ago, Santa Maria still uses it at every match and it has never ever missed a beat (except the time I fed a #%^^^# shell up the mag backwards,that slowed things up for a while).

Words to live by! I can easily see that. I haven't been at it that long,judging by the SASS #, but I've already met some phenomenal people When I started looking into reloading a CAS Buddy in Ontarion sent me 1000 once fired brass, no charge and 3 weeks ago another friend in Nova Scotia, did the same . Then another friend in Nova Scotia, when I asked if he had any for sale, sold me 3500 for hardly nothing. Some day I'll be in a position to do the same for a newB. I'm looking forward to the next season to go around and visit all my new friends, in Fredericton, Truro, Kentville, I'm even planning a trip to Texas in November for the Concho Valley Massacre in San Angelo. YeeeHaaaw!

I bought my 1913 Winchester 97 from bslim back in '03 or '04 at Ft Kusk, and it hasn't missed a beat either. You must admit when you buy from bernie it lasts and lasts.

Just a small reminder. I shoot 200 grn. 45's in both my revolvers and rifle and have since day one. I did find that when I tried to change from 200 grn to 180 grn. the pattern on my 73 went from 2" @ 50 yds. to 12" at the same yardage. I normally shoot my Marlin Competition, so no big deal. Although we shoot at some very close distances, when you're trying to decide what to shoot in what firearm, take some time to do a sight in before you load a ton of ammo. or buy a ton of lead and find out it's not right for your guns. I can't remember just how many small bonus targets were missed by competitors thinking," the targets are big and they are very close". I sure am happy to see Newcommers taking the time to do the research before jumping in. I'm thinking they're going to have a lot more fun with fewer set-backs.

We're just getting into reloading .38spl, just received our Dillon Square Deal press today we'll be loading 158gr RNFP, with Trailboss for about 850fps. We'll do up about 200 and go try them, from there we'll adjust we may shoot for closer to 950 or there abouts, ya know a little bigger bang.
At this rate we'll need a section just for Cowboy Action Shooting, so we can share all kinds of info. This site is where I learned all the basics, thanks all, it's been one great 1st year, now I get to really enjoy the fun of it all.
