ok heres an angle ............would or COULD there be any interest in having a seperate CLASS
for ww1 /ww2 era pistols .........say lugers /p38 / non altered 1911s......broomhandle mausers , ect ect......

there is revolver class.........so........just an idea ................get some safe queens out and about .

I sort of doubt that there would be enough blanket intrest to bring out collectables to shoot like this in a whole new division. But if a few here and there wanted to do so then there's no reason not to shoot them for fun in whatever class the guns fit into. For example both Luger and original 1911's fit into Standard for IPSC. They may not be competitive against some of the other guns with magwells and stuff like that but the whole point is to just use them for fun and see how one fairs with it.

I must admit that it would be pretty sweet to see someone shooting their way through a match with a real honest to goodness Luger or old wartime M&P Victory revolver... :D

I...would...totally...attend a "vintage" handgun IPSC-like competition. My .30 Mauser calibre Broomhandle doesn't meet real IPSC rules, but I would so love to run around with it. I'd even wear jodhpurs & a pith-helmet for a 20's-30's Pulp Hero look. Or an old Webley.

Can you imagine IPSC-like matches with flap holsters?

Yeah... Steampunk IPSC, the newest craze that will over shadow CAS. You saw it here first!

I'd be all for it. It's not like pistol competition didn't exist way back, it just wasn't a huge thing like it is now.

Long as guns have been around, people have competed to some degree.

That said, I'd love a P38 for that such style shooting

Now if we can bring in the Steampunk woman as well.

Fwiw, I don't think ANZA would have an issue if people up here wanted to join and just have capers using pistol and shotgun only. It's supposed to be fun, though a Tommy gun would be fun!

Sounds like what is needed is a "Period Pistol Practical Shooting" event that is sort of similar to CAS but without any actual time or location specifics attached. Shooters would compete in different "age" categories from early flintlock pieces to more modern age categories. The key is that the costume would need to match the firearms. So we'd see swashbuckling pirates or naval officers with a brace of flintlocks and a sword stuck in their cumberbunds to cival war types from both sides to East Indian British toopers complete with handlebar moustach to African safari guides in pith helmet and khaki gear to WW1 doughboys with early GI style 1911's to 30's gangsters with S&W revolvers. Each category would carry some sort of "extra" task that was period correct to make things more fun. And the costumes could have some sort of bonus or award for "best of category" that may or many not be connected with the actual shooting. It would likely be more fun if it was just a separate award at the end of the day.

Yes, such "fairs" could be a heap of fun for both the shooters and the spectators.

"Steampunk" is a kind of Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Historical mix-genre. It takes a sort of "Victorian" aesthetic and applies it to typical Sci-fi items. Like vehicles, weapons, robots etc. So imagine such things, but made of brass and rivets and steam powered etc. Go Google Image it. Mauser Broomhandles and Webleys fit right into it. So would a Borschardt pistol. But I can't imagine anyone having one of those and willing to do action-shooting with it.

I shot for 3 years with a 1942 us property colt. You can run what you brung in ipsc.

I do not think there would be alot of appeal to folks using vintage firearms for ipsc though. You may shoot a few thousand rounds a season and you will be doing hundreds of draws from the holster. Both would be hard on the finish of a collectible.
