Best non-res SHTF gun?

I would have to say combo of shotgun, sks, and a 10/22.
Shotgun would be the truck gun or carry always gun incase s**t happens. It will suffice for in-city travel back to my home to pick up other supplies, and double as my CCQ and home defense weapon. Slugs are good for mid-large size game, buckshot all the way down to birdshot will be available EVERYWHERE you go, the 12 guage is probably THE most common round in north america, second only to the .22LR in my opinion.
Sks(or vz858) for the fact that I can modify the mags when there is time(colapse of gvmt, no mag cap laws to uphold). The 7.62x39 round is widely available in large quantities, and if I happen to make my way overseas readily available in most countries. It's cheap, and more than accurate for up to 150 - 200 yards to hit a man sized or larger target. It has similar stopping power to a 30-30 making it ideal for deer, small bear, and other mid-sized game. As well as it just wont die(sks). I wont be playing sniper any time soon, It wouldnt make sense for me to barely see a person out past 200 yards and label them a combatant or threat. When I am minding my own business and simply feeding my family I have no need for a rifle capable of battleing it out to 600 yds+, ill sacrifice long range accuracy for long life and reliability
10/22 for varmit hunting animals such as rabbit, gopher, tabby-cats(if there arent sotres, meat is meat, guys gotta eat). Ammo is CHEAP and available everywhere. And because it CAN serve as a defense weapon as well, regardless of what others have said a torso shot by a .22LR round at 150 yards is going to knock a guy down, especially with high velocity rounds such as stingers, and if you happen to dril or notch the tip to help with fragmentation upon impact it becomes that much more deadly.
Lets not forget, you dont necessarily have to kill any intruders or enemies instantly, if you wound them enough to knock em down and stay down, they no longer pose a threat to you or your family
Hey, I do follow my own advice.
Remington 700 (30-06 - 180 gr federal)
Remington 870 wingmaster (12g/3 - 00 2-1/2 buckshot and slug)
Norc M305x2 (308 and an extra rifle for spare parts, plus one's built closer to a marksman rifle, 168 SMK and SGK)
Ruger 10/22 (.22LR - 40gr dynapoints, 2000+ rounds)
Norc 1911A1 (45 ACP - 230 gr lead nose flat point, and two boxes of federal 230 gr hollowpoints)
And I'll be adding both a VZ858 and AR15 or some other 5.56 rifle to the mix soon. And I've got enough ammo for each that if I had to grab just one gun and ammo type I wouldn't be too heartbroken about leaving the rest behind. My mentality is though that home should only be abandoned if absolutely neccessay. Plus the spare weaponry can be used for bartering other goods if needed.
Now if I had to choose only one, I'd probably go with the M305 or VZ858. But why limit yourself unless it's neccessary, hmm?
In a rifle, as a plan be, my choice would be an SKS/VZ etc..and of course an 18.5'' M14S...Not a Garand though.
I have a few Norc's myself as my primary weapons as well...
1) lever action rifle of some sort.
* Externally lubricated = if the punk doesn't die from the shot, poison will follow some time after.
* Reliable as heck, don't jam too easily
* You aren't playing "army-man", the high-capacity and modest shooting speed should be good enough for anyone who plans on aiming at their target.
2) shorty pump shotgun 12ga
* concealable
* non-restricted "technically"
* Scare-factor with the looters
3) I wouldn't mind a semi auto beltfed mounted to the sunroof of my vehicle, but ammo's a lil pricey ...

For me personally my #1 Go To gun if SHTF will be my CZ858, with unpinned mags, assuming that no laws or regulations would be left in place to worry about. I would also be holstering a 9mm CZ75, so actually that would be my first gun I pick up.
If SHTF, I would imagine that I would end up with atleast a dozen people at my house because I have a wood stove, so if all electricity and gas was not in service, everyone would like to stay at my toasty warm, wood heated home, including several people that were'nt invited, and would like to have access to my warm house, with all of my food that I have in storage in the cellar.
Atleast I do have 8 different guns, including my 2 main go to guns, so between a dozen people, we could keep my house covered at all 4 sides, and keep all people inside fed. Lucky for me I live in a area that is infested with Canadian Geese 4 seasons of the year, and if SHTF, I could easily ping off a couple geese every day to keep everyones stomaches full.

I couldn't narrow it down to one, it would depend on the situation, location etc. I think I'd want all of them....AR with EOTech, Bolt with good scope, 12ga, and .45 handgun.

A friend that runs a tourist business in the shrimping village of Lafitte, Louissianna that survived Hurricane Katrina, had alot to say about privately owned frearms in the aftermath.
Thankfully in thier parish no gun confiscations were carried out. And many locals that chose to ride it out in thier parish needed guns for personal security to protect lives/property from looters.
He said the gun shops within 150 miles were beseiged with desperate buyers. First all the handguns in popular calibres sold out, followed by carbines and 12 gauge shotguns.
Then the feds/LEO officers showed up and moved to the head of the line for ammo sales. All the 40 Smith/9mm/223 were then sold out. If you were lucky enough not to need these calibres, then 38/357/45 ACP could be purchased if you were early enough.
In Cyruss's neighborhood, anything that could shoot 12 gauge was in dire need until order was restored, also any double action 38/357 revolver also very popular with locals. (So were handheld flashlights & batteries for them) Keep in mind, this is a small relatively compact village with many homes/docks/boats hugging the shoreline, and a high powered rifle bullet could do alot of unintentional damage if poorly placed.

The only good stf gun is the gun you have on you when the stf.... why because it doesnt have to be run around mad max for a home invasion.. or a bear.. or mountain lion or heck someone who just doesnt like you and is crazy enough to try and kill you.. The best gun is the gun that gets the job done..

as for me, it would be my tavor. compact, accurate, gas-piston operated, battery-less optic(mepro 21m), shoot the 223/556 which means better accuracy and more range then the usual pistol caliber yet light enough to carry a lot(much more then 7.62x39 or 308).

Well, I would say, Pistol caliber carbine in 7.62x25, 9mm, 10mm, 357, or 44
Pistol calibers are the 22lr of centerfire's with a couple of advantages and 1 disadvantage
The ammo is generally of higher quality, it is reloadable (straight walled cases and cast bullets means you could get by reloading with just hand tools), you do get alot more power out of it, and generally any soft tissue hit to a vital area at 200m the target is going down.
The disadvantage is that while compact the pistol caliber ammo is heavier than 22lr
