Hello fello gun nutz,

I'm thinking of parting with one of the safe queens. What would somehting like this be worth? 405 Win, M1985 (Original). Manufactured in 1914. I'm at work here and don't have any pictures but over-all condition I'd say 80% wood and bluing. It's been used for hunitng for a long time but NEVER abused. Everyting is original except for a rear peep sight installed by the great John Jobson in the mid 60's.

Kindly

The 29th edition of the Blue Book put the value of a '95 Winchester at about $3600 for a rifle in 80% condition. If the condition is only 10% its still worth $750, and at 95% $4500. It doesn't say what its worth if "TR" was cut into the butt with a belt knife.;)

Like has been said, if it was a .303 or a .30/06 drilled and tapped for a peep sight you would probably pull less than $500 out of it around here but even modified a .405 in any shape at all should bring over $1000 easy. My 2 cents. But unless it had special order features good luck getting $3600 out of an 80% gun. They do not command the prices that 86's do.

Mike Webb is right at the very least a $1K on up as one of the hardest calibre to find and is desirable, now that ammmo is easily found making the guns worth a little more. I had to import dies and brass at great cost 10 years back for my 35WCF! Thanks to the resergents in old guns, it is more affordable to load an shoot old IRON! good luck with the sale! Dale Z!
