highest quality hunting rifle?

Weatherby is a fine rifle - I really dont see them as overpriced relatively speaking either.

I would go for a good used Heym, or by far or one of my favorite go to rifles, a good used M-72 Mannlicher . Mine happens to be a carbine in 30-06 and it never fails to do its part.

Like em or not, there aren't many push feed bolt guns that feed as nicely as a MkV. When you throw the rifle to your shoulder the reticle is right there, you don't have to go looking for it. So while Weatherbys have plenty of glitz, there is some substance too. I won't disgrace my gun safe with one though.:stirthepot2:

C'mon you guys! Obviously he was referring to new rifles off the rack. No fair trying to slide in under the bar with used ones at half price or better, eh!

...granted, given what's available, it was a tough question.

;)

The original post didn't distinguish between new and used, so the obvious place to get a rifle that fit the OP description, would be on the used market. Back in the--oops, here we go again--"The glory days of shooting," the makers of fine guns took great pride in their work. And there were so many high quality rifles made then, in many countries, that one would be extremely hard pressed to pick out just one.
Imagine if one good example of every make mentioned on this thread was before you, and you had to pick just one!
One consolation would be that you couldn't really go wrong, no matter which one you picked.

T/C Icon? Relativily new to the bolt action game but I've heard good things about their rifles and customer service, I will eventually buy one, one day.

A mint Husqvarna/Carl Gustaf 1900. Smoothest and most accurate bolt action I have ever owned.

I did yes.....Not sure what they cost...Sorry to offend you.

Found cost....UKÂŁ 1377 = 2 139.0676 Canadian dollars..A bit over budget, but not that far fetched when you look at Kimber, Sako, or Nosler. A used one might be around budget if one can be found.

I never specified in the original post but I meant new guns, sure there are always deals on sweet old rifles, and I have a few of these underpriced gems in the cabinet but its luck of the draw to get these. I would have to put a vote in for the ruger #1 and I sure want to get my hands on a blr in 300 mag or 270wsm, some of the cz's are nice too and when I do get that 416 rigby it will likely be in a cz 550 safari.

You asked about highest quality. How do you define high quality in a gun? Makes a big difference in what you are looking for.

I wouldn't call a Mauser M03 a traditional rifle, anyway. For me, when it comes to Mausers, it's the 98 or nothing.

I own 2 Savage 99s and 2 CZs-one in 22lr and the other is the Mini Mauser in 223 the CZ527. They make me drool when I take them out to play they are so pretty. Thats quality enough for me and they make pretty well everything in left hand bolts to boot for another $50. Very nice wood on them too and the blueing is deep and dark. Nice, very nice.

Sako Bavarian model rifles have beautiful wood and amazing accuracy out of the box. Should be able to find one around the $1500 mark.
