highest quality hunting rifle?

Ruger no 1 have a tendancy to be hit and miss for accuracy. I got one of the apparently 50% that dont. Sold it and replaced it with the CZ527. Now THAT was an upgrade for the same cash. I love falling blocks but an expensive rifle that at best gives a 3in group at 100m goes. Of course thats after spending more money on it too..

There's a great deal of information out there on how to make a #1 shoot, I think you gave up to easy. But it depends on whether or not you like the rifle enough to justify spending the time to make it shoot. Your CZ 527 is a fine rifle. I had to do some tweaking with my #1, but it wasn't an accuracy issue, it was chambered for a powerful round and split the butt stock which, as it turned out, wasn't unevenly bedded to the tang of the receiver. While I was dealing with that I had a custom quarter rib made to bring the ocular of the scope in line with the face of the falling block, which kept the loading port free of obstruction and ensured I would get tagged with the scope.

Wow just got off their web site. They have some really interesting stuff.

They do so. I first seen a M 03 in a high end gun store in Florida, and I fell in love with it. It had nice engraving, and the wood was spectacular. I ended up buying a Kimber that gouped like a shotgun:(. Oh well I have my brother drop into that gunshop from time to time just incase a used M 03 shows up.

Yeah, the MO3 is nice...if you don't mind its non-traditional design....and, of course, if you can't get hold of a Blaser.:D

Talk about non-traditional!

Most of the Euro stuff is stunning, but very expensive. Mauser M03, Blaser R93, Steyr-Mannlicher Classic, Sauer S 202 (my fave!), Heym, Merkel, etc... Beautiful guns! But WAY overpriced. Well okay, they aren't overpriced per se, not for the craftsmanship at any rate, but they are very expensive. IMO I'd go for a new M70 Supergrade, Browning Medallion, or CZ550. The only Kimber I'd buy if I wanted something fancy would be the SuperAmerica, which is well over $1500 IIRC. A Sako Bavarian or Cooper Model 52 on sale maybe (it'd have to be a heck of a sale)?

The Husqvarna's are pretty nice rifles for the price if you are into a used rifle, and they are readily available from trafe-ex for 500$. My three husky's all shoot sub MOA. Also the belgium Brownings are very nicely made rifles in the <1500 range. As for new rifles I think some of the winchesters are very nice, like the featherweight or supergrade.

Yeah Boomer I did give it a lot of attention but it was getting to the point of being a hassle. First the trigger and then the accurizer and then and then...
Still the NO 1 has a reputation for being a sometimes soso shooter and I had one of them. Too bad cuz I love the falling block mechs and the No 1 was a love thing right away. The rifle I replaced it with shot way better right out of the box and now its bedded its way better. Got tired of pissing around with it. The fella I sold it to listed it 6 months later so there you go. I have a BSA Martini action that was made around 1920 that puts 3 CCI Minimags in the same hole at 25m with peeps. Have a Stevens Favorite on the way to me now.
My CZ527 leftie that I replaced the no 1 with is a tack driver and it has a set trigger to boot. Happy I am with my CZ 223.

I never specified in the original post but I meant new guns, sure there are always deals on sweet old rifles, and I have a few of these underpriced gems in the cabinet but its luck of the draw to get these. I would have to put a vote in for the ruger #1 and I sure want to get my hands on a blr in 300 mag or 270wsm, some of the cz's are nice too and when I do get that 416 rigby it will likely be in a cz 550 safari.

In that case it's going to be the Winchester M70 Super grade, followed by the Kimber Classic.

Like em or not, there aren't many push feed bolt guns that feed as nicely as a MkV. When you throw the rifle to your shoulder the reticle is right there, you don't have to go looking for it. So while Weatherbys have plenty of glitz, there is some substance too. I won't disgrace my gun safe with one though.:stirthepot2:

I've Got Four Weatherby Mark V's And There's alot of other Rifles I Wont buy and disgrace my Gun Safe with:stirthepot2:

espicially A , P.O.S Savage Rifle!!!

P&D carries the Mauser 03. That's where I saw the CZ 555 last year in 3006 for just under 1300. It is an improvement on the 550. Still sorry I didn't buy it. I can't see anyone else ever advertise one for sale. Another one I would buy is a Steyr Prohunter if it came in wood.
