I am wondering why we can't have any of the .30-06 surplus floating around in the states. It's on a lot of the websites. Especially the non-corrossive greek stuff.

What regulations prevent us / Canadian companies from buying it?

I know we can't get it - but I am just wondering if someone could break it down for me.

It's something about nrcan not testing it or something. Does anyone who shoots in the US or can export ammo bring it back? You can import up to 5000 rounds without approval right? Or is it just for personal use?

It's all NRCAN. They want the exact data from every single component before they will test it. And since lots of the producers are not around any more, their is no data to send. It gets even more complicated when ammo is made up from different factories. If the primers, bullets, brass and powder are made at different factories, NRCAN will need the info from all four places.

Its all in the name of public safety you see, they want to make sure their is no toxic stuff in the ammo, its not like they are trying to prevent ammo from entering the country or anything:rolleyes:

And about Importing the 5000 rounds, it legal to IMPORT the ammo into Canada, however you need an permit from the USDOS to EXPORT it from the US, and to get that permit you need an import permit from NRCAN.

Yeah, that's why kids toys have lead in them, or baby food recalled, or pet food killing peoples dogs and cats...

I was under the impression that most of the issues with pretty much anything coming up from the States was on their side of the border - ammo included. Although NRCAN probably doesn't help, for commercial import.

That could be the case, but most of it is with NRCAN. I think Marstar has a few thousand crates of 7.62x51 off shore in Europe somewhere but can't bring it in because of NRCAN. Apparently he also has a few thousand New, unissued FAL's as well.

Well, I hope NRCAN gets off their a$$ and that 7.62x51 makes it's way over.
And as for the .30-06 ammo. It's too bad. I'd love to shoot 100 rounds through a days session and think nothing of it. Instead, I can shoot 8. One clip :p

The US market will soak up any MILSURP .30-06 that turns up. I think the last we saw here was LC69 ball in the mid-1990s, and it really wasn't top quality. One really good bunch of ammo was the Danish-made M2 ball that was flogged through the US CMP some years ago. I had the opportunity to shoot quite a bit of it with friends in Arizona, and it was excellent.

Reloading is the way to go. It offers both economy, accuracy, and reliability in the M1 Garand. Stick to either IMR4895 or 4064 and 150-168gr bullets and you are good to go. Other than match bullets, the 150gr Hornady FMJ is a very accurate and economical bullet. Use 48 gr IMR4064 or 47gr IMR4895, seat to COL of 3.285, FL re-size your brass, and seat primers below flush.

NRCAN, an official arm of the shadow government, entrenched by the LPC and proud of it. Maybe with a majority CPC government, we can pressure them into neutering NRCAN.

I don't wanna hijack the thread but related to importation...

I know Questar offers to import something for the states for a reasonnable cost. I'm just curious about what's the extent of the things that pass and don't pass the border.

For example, I'm looking for an original Inland M1 Para on gunbroker. I know it's pricey, but a man can dream, right? Do you think it's reasonnable to think it could be imported here? It's restricted, but the caliber is legal here and I saw one on the EE some months ago. Except the price of import, is it possible, and worth it?

The same question applies to things a bit more scarce. I saw a Mondragon up for sale (yeah, I don't even think about it). If someone has the cash, is it possible to import this here, or it's gonna be so complicated because it's so rare almost no data is available?
