Racking shotgun infront of tv good for it?

My gf bought me a rem 870 express tact for early birthday present since on sale, just wondering how I break it in? Like just practice racking it while watching tv to work it in? And any other tips?
 
as far as i know there is no real "break in" process for a pump gun, especially an 870. When I got mine i just disassembled it, cleaned it and played with it.

No harm in racking it either an yeah that should work out any kinks in it like roughness and such.

I don't know the actual effects of dry firing a firearm repeatedly, but I don't do it... I think you're not really working the action if you're not pulling the trigger, but I avoid doing it on an empty chamber, so some used shells (as above, make sure they're not live!) or Snap Caps are good. Snap Caps aren't cheap... $10 - $20 for a few rounds, I think, depending on caliber... but they should last you indefinitely.

But, as has been said, taking it to the range is the best way of testing it out. I've never had a "new" gun, so I can't comment on the strip & clean before firing, but it certainly can't hurt.

As for doing it in front of the TV, just make sure you're blinds are down.
 
Ya i was going to buy one on the EE but with the current mail in rebate 30$ and the 10% discount on boxing days got it for 420$ out the door. Much cheaper then used ones on the EE. Should i totally dissemble it and clean/grease it? I've never bought a new gun besides my sks which is my boat paddle if need be haha.
