Racking shotgun infront of tv good for it?

I got two 870s, just picked up my 870 tac, racking it doesn't hurt the gun rather makes it smoother. how you ask? the parts that are at work when you rack it are metal on metal, the more you rack the smoother it gets, my older 870 has passed its 1200 round count and it just keeps shooting better and better.

Seriously? take it apart, spray it with break free CLP, get out any machining crumbs (yes i had some), light lube the action, and then if you want, use a snap cap to cycle. Or, just go outside and shoot the damn thing!
 
What's break free clp do? And spray what parts with it?
Edit: also what's the best way to prevent the rusting that tends to accompany these expresses?
 
I have a question I'll keep in this thread. It pertains to loosening up the mechanisms of the gun so I don't think it's hijacking.

I just got an HP9 and in loading it, I find the carrier to be very stiff and giving lots of resistance while I'm trying to load the magazine. I'm curious as to whether this stiffness can be reduced. Is there a special after market spring or can you just work it into submission?

Also, over coming the springs that keep the shells in the magtube (I don't know their names) is difficult. Do they ease off in time?

Break Free is a cleaner-lubricant-protectant, hence the clp. It's good stuff, I use it on most of my firearms, AR-15s, pistols, shotguns all love it.

It's a reasonable rust preventer as well. The military folks use it on everything from pistols to battleship cannons.
 
Properly manufactured new firearms do not require any sort of "break in" to function properly. Clean the shipping preservative off of it and go shoot it.
 
Go use it to cut down some trees, clean it, oil it, and carry on. Sitting in a chair racking the action sounds almost like euphemism for masturbation. With guns just like with other things, the real things always better.
 
Dry firing nor 'racking' it will hurt it. It's good practice for whatever 'speed' shooting you may end up doing too. Cleaning it is the only 'breaking in' required.
