Would anyone happen to know if any East German SKS's (model Karabiner S?) make it into Canada?

Anyone happen to have any photos?

Long before the Berlin Wall was a historic memory and the Canadian Firearms rules were less tight-as$ed, my friend Wes in Regina collected modern military surplus guns. He had an MP5, a couple of AKs and an East German SKS. The only reason why I remember that is he told a story about inviting a German immigrant over to talk guns, and the fellow exclaimed, 'Karbiner!' when he saw it. No idea where that gun is now. Wes is in Australia, where he can't collect modern military surplus guns.

guess its time to start keeping my eyes open.. haha.

I'd love to add one of these to my collection.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a book on the SKS that might help me better understand each different version and help better identify original configs etc?

Go on sksboards.com and look around, you'll find all the SKS info that you'll ever need. There are more variations of the SKS than you ever thought possible. Cheers.
