Mornin all,
Am heading out in an hour or so for the first shots through a new-to-me 10/22. What kind of accuracy can I expect as a baseline? I've heard of ragged hole groups at 50m, clover leaf, and @ 1". I'm gonna try my varmint scope(3-12) as well as a red-dot, may also try the irons.
Cheers!!
I'll feel free to say what many others feel too macho to admit

: those terms really do sound pretty cool, so of course I'm fascinated by them !
That said, a lot depends on ammunition, sights and the shooter's discipline...

...for example, I can use my stock 10/22 with Tech Sights (okay, it now
also wears a Tapco stock, though
that can hardly be said to increase accuracy...

...) to blanket that bullseye circle @ 25 yards with CCI Blazer, and I'm rather content with that.
Because I know the rifle, the sights and the ammunition, and I really can't ask too much more of that combination !
Now, my Remington 552 can do that same "bullseye circle blanketing" @ 50 yards (and with Winchester 333/555's, no less ! ), but that's a wholly different rifle/sight-scope/ammunition combination, and I'm well aware of that.
The point of all this rambling? Know your combination of rifle, sights and ammunition and you'll at least get consistent, predictable results - and that's nothing to sneeze at.
And, with all that said, there's nothing quite like looking through a powerful-enough scope and actually seeing your rifle/ammo combination shoot "to its limit" when you are zeroing at a distance....
