Brand loyalty

just thinking today about firearms owners and brand loyalty. I would like to know how many of you would classify yourself as "loyal to a specific company"?
And for what reason? Was it that you bought your first rifle and really liked it so you figured "why change a good thing"? or were you dissappointed with other makers and driven to the choice that you have come to today?

Or are you on the other side of the fence and don't care at all about the make as long as it is chambered in the calibre you are looking for and meets your requirements?

It may just be me, but I find that with the huge assortment of firearms available to us, there us much less brand loyalty. People obsess and split hairs so much over the exact cartridge chambering, that the fit and build of the gun is secondary.
 
I can see and appreciate the value in most brands out there. The thing for me though is that I prefer the older stuff - Brno 21H, ZG47, Husqvarna 1600, FN M98 etc.
 
I've tried a few brands and now I will not hunt with anything other than Ruger M77 rifles. For shotguns I still use Rem 870 but the new ones look a bit ill compared to the older ones.

:agree: But i will probably end up buying a newer CZ at some point in time. I hear good things about them.
 
I stay away from the companies that don't offer a good bang for your buck if I'm buying new rifles. I'm loyal to companies that offer a lot of rifle for a lesser amount of money.

For the most part now I buy older guns which seem to have much better quality and craftsmanship put into them. New guns also seem to lack the character I look for.

Its kind of funny, I don't have a problem laying down cash for one of those sight unseen, but when it comes to purchasing a brand new rifle, I want the opportunity to handle a few of them before I select the one I want. Of the new rifles I've got my hands on, which admittedly haven't been that many, the one that really impressed me was the Ruger Alaskan.
 
Judging by all the stickers I see on all the trucks driving around here, Everybody and their dog owns all kinds of Browning stuff. I don't own a Browning, but they must be damned good to make people want to plaster their trucks with the stickers.

My safe doesn't contain any Brownings, and it's kind of a toss up in terms of quantity between Savages and Enfields. If I find a deal on a gun though, the name brand doesn't usually stop me from buying it.
 
I have owned a variety of Remington, Mossberg, Marlin, Savage, Cooey, Winchester, Mauser, Iver johnson, NEF,and Lee Enfield Firearms. I prefer older guns but have owned and been impressed by some newer ones as well. Generally, I'd have some brand "preferences" when buying new (more so brands that i'd "prefer" not to buy). But no overwhelming loyalty.
 
Hell no. Brand loyalty will get ya screwed if you dont do the research (look at new Rem 870s vs old ones).

Anywho, I take three guns to deer camp; Ruger and Winchester rifles, Remmy shotgun. I have loyalty to what works.

Dogmatic brand loyalty is a sign of inexperience.
 
No brand loyalty except that I will never own a Remington no offense to anyone, just a personal preference.

I own Browning, Ruger, Smith, Marlin, Tikka, Savage, Glock, Kimber... I have more Smiths than anything else however.

I have a range of brands. But like cars, it depend on the model and the year they were built. I have seen some rifles from the early 1900's that I would love to hunt with.

But for practical purposes, the only interesting rifles for hunting are accurate rifles. And accurate rifles for the most part are built to personal preferences that an individual develops over time.
 
I like Remington 700s, not because I think they are better in factory form than other makers, but because there is tons of aftermarket goodies out there to play with.

When you are looking for a new girlfriend you don't only ask out girls named Amy because the last one to rock your world was named Amy. You are going to ask who ever looks good to you. Shelly, Lori, Roxanne they all look good too. And don't forget the girls that have been around the block a few times...Ester, Eunis and Matilda...they know things!!! The same with gun names!
 
If I had to figure out what brands I've hunted with in the past and would use again in the future the list would be pretty long. Hell, in my safe there are hunting rifles from Browning (2), Husqvarna (1), Marlin (1), Ruger (2), Winchester (3), Savage (1) and Merkel (1). I've also used Sako, BSA and HK for hunting. And while I have never used a Model 700 (that I can remember) I wouldn't have a problem doing so. I think that brand loyalty, while harmless, is overrated and unnecessary.
 
The only brand that I will not bend on is Kraft Dinner. All the other brands are crap! With everything else in my life, if it works, has a good track record and is the right price, I'll buy it. I have started buying new firearms simply for the warranty that comes with it. I like the piece of mind of knowing that even if I bought a lemon, It'll get fixed and not come out of my pocket.
