7-08 or 260

The 7-08 will push a heavier bullet a little bit better than the .260. 140's and some 150's will work fairly well in the 7-08, the .260 seems to really like 120 to 130 range. But with some hunting bullets with BC's over .500 and match bullets even higher, there can be some very good long range shooting by both. You are splitting hairs here nothing wrong with either choice.

Well from the selection of calibers you have it looks like you everything covered from little furry critters to great big hairy ones, so I dought you NEED another but I do get that you want another.
As far as the 7-08 being better well if it is ,it sure isnt by much from reading the responses to this thread some one said it well that the SD and BC appear to be slightly better. It is a short action caliber, accurate and light recoil ideal for a light rifle build and I am sure they use it for long range shooting for good reason, last but not least it has good degree of cool factor to me.

Very good point there !

Of course, its not the same caliber / diameter.
243 win, its a 6mm : lauch a 100gr @ 2950 fps
260 rem, its a 6.5mm : launch a 120gr @ 2900 fps
7mm-08 rem , its a 7mm : launch a 140gr @ 2860 fps
308 win, its a 7.62mm : launch a 150gr @ 2820 fps

What i mean here and want to show by this example,
You cant ask a smaller caliber to launch the same bullet weight, with the same effect and trajectory.
Of course, theres exception who confirm the rule.
Like launching a 6.5mm , 140gr @ 3100 fps from a 28 inch tube,
But the tool is pretty much different.
I think a 120gr a 2900 fps will do a nice work on most of our small ( big game ) like deer and below.

If you can't do it with the .260, you won't do it with the 7-08 either, conversely if the 7-08 does it, the .260 will as well. Arguing between these two cartridges makes arguing between the .270 and the .30/06 seem worthwhile.

Based on that I might as well stick with the 308. As all cartridges mentioned really are just about the same, but at least the 308 I can get at a CT almost anywhere.
