223 throu an ar

I'm reloading .223 with 62g fmj with H335 powder for my ar with 16" barrell with 1/9 twist. Any recommendations to start or loads that work?

According to Hodgdon.com website, for a 63 gr bullet, start at 22.5 gr up to 25 gr. What brand of bullets did you buy? I got some Armscor 62 gr FMJ and I'm all over the place with my 1/7 twist barrel.

ya the armscor 62gr...i found i was all over too with everything between 22 and 25..may be going back to 55gr and staying there

Get a Lee factory crimp die if you dont already have it.
My Ar will cycle with 95% of the lowest load in books . Start with min and move up .2-.3 grain at a time

Glad i saw this thread tonight. I just bought an AR, should be here in a couple of weeks.
I was wondering in regards to reloading for an AR if there is anything special to keep in mind with reloads? AR specific issues? Or load as normal.

Load as Normal and crimp with a crimp die

it all depends on your twist- my colt 1/7 20 absolutely HATES 55 grain fmj- the old stuff- yet gives dime sized groups with 69-70 grain smks or speers- the 55 grain is meant for the old 1/12 twists
