Hello,

I just tracked down an Advantage Arms .22lr conversion kit for a Gen3 Glock17.
The dealer is asking $495 for the kit. Is this the going rate?
Anyone have any experience with this kit or similar?

I already have a dedicated .22lr HG so I'm looking to extend the range time of my Glock.

Thanks

I was excited about the possiblity of getting a .22lr conversion kit for my Glock 17 so I could use the platform more (cost effectively).
Now I'm reconsidering.....do I spend the $500 on a kit or put the money towards 9mm ammo?
I'd like to hear from those of you who have a .22lr conversion kit for your HG and if you actually use it.

Btw...I already have a Ruger MKIII

Thanks

The kit is BNIB for $495 plus tax. I believe 1 mag.
US online sites have the same kit listed for under $300USD.

I've tried to order from most of those places for a Glock 19 conversion... They all end up contacting me telling me its actually out of stock.

I live in California (where Advantage Arms is based out of) and its very hard for us to get these kits even... They haven't been able to keep up with demand for at least a couple years in my opinion. Anyway, when you do find one locally they tend to run ~$420 + 9% tax, 1 mag.

Heck, I'm still on a waiting list to get mine and I have been for months.

Well... I have a conversion for one of my AR's... And I use that A LOT now... I shoot it more than anything else and have just as much fun shooting it in .22LR as i do in .223Rem... I kind of expect the same to be true for my Handgun.

The idea is (as I'm sure you've considered) to have a cost effective gun to shoot that's identical to what your 'Primary Gun/Caliber'... That's basically the reason I've been on a waiting list to get an AA G19 Conversion for so long.

Just my $0.02...

BTW: For .22LR conversions... Just remember, you probably have to shoot less than 1-2k .22LR before the kit has paid for itself...

That seems wrong. They're made where you live yet you pay a premium and you can't get your hands on one.
Some of the online US sites indicate a 7-10mth waiting list. I thought it was a misprint and they meant weeks.
I guess $495CDN NIB +13% and available is not too bad in the grand scheme of things.

My AA kit has been awesome. I really love the fact I can use the kit on the exact same platform as my IPSC rig. One of the best things about the kit is it has taught me a lot about flinching. After shooting .40cal for a bit and then changing out to .22lr you can really see the flinch at work. After using the .22lr for a while and focusing on breathing, grip, squeezing the trigger, and the front sight you can translate all of those skills to the .40cal. You just have to keep those feelings in your minds eye when shooting the big guns.

Lanz shooting supplies had them on special for $449 I believe!

They will ship to you as well, but the sale ends today I believe.

Google Lanz shooting supplies or PM me for their number.

Talk to dillon or seth, and tell em Mark sent you!

Cheers
Mark

Mercury...some interesting bling going on there! I could imagine your Harley;)
You make some good points about shooting .22lr and flinching. I purchased a MKIII for my son to shoot but I'm finding that it's also making me a better shot when I switch back to centerfire. Also, pounding several hundred rounds of cheap .22lr during a session probably helps the trigger finger. Getting more range time with the G17 would be nice.

Mark, thanks for the heads up.
I didn't even know Lanz Shooting Supplies existed and they're fairly close to the GTA. May have to pay them a visit someday.

i have shot 500 rounds of remington thunderbolts thru my glock 17 advantage arms kit with about 1 or 2 fte's. i think both were due to cracked ammo necks...the kit is VERY accurate, much more accurate than my 9mm ammo. Buy at least two extra mags with it, you will find going thru 22 cal 10 rounders is much faster than 9mm counterparts. i got nothing but good things to say about it. I recently got two 500 round boxes of remington thunderbolts for 27 bucks each at lebaron....you cant go wrong

Winchester wildcats are even less at lebarons and shoot great.

I picked up five extra mags so I can use my kit for Speed Steel. If you haven't tried speed steel yet you've got to give it a try.

this is me shooting a speed steel match. I'm using my G17 this time but I usually use my G20C with the AA kit. Much cheaper.

Reload!

Look at the costs involved in reloading. 9mm is about 35 cents a shot and you can reload for about 12 cents, using cast lead.
Just a thought,
Geoff

Meh... It is what it is...

In California we pay a premium for a lot of things... In part because our laws are so stupid, and in part because many online vendors don't want to ship certain things to California (thus, they cancel our orders).

In fact, I would say often, for most firearms stuff, prices in California are just shy of what the same costs in Canada.

**Shrugs**

If you get the kit I know you'll enjoy it... I've rented the kit a few times at a local range and I've had nothing but good experiences. Also, I'm confident that IF you ever did have an issue, AA would take care of you. They know as well as anyone (being in California) how horrible gun laws are for some of us..

;)

The one big thing with this kit is to keep it well lubricated. Sometimes after 3 or 4 hundred rounds it will start to FTF. Not a lot but more often than usual. A quick lube will get another hundred or so rounds then you'll have to clean it.

That's kind of the nature of Rimfire in general... Meh

I've been told that some people use a high temp grease with good results (above a few hundred rounds fired before cleaning)... I would not know from first hand though..

You have a valid point that I have considered especially when I also shoot .45ACP and a .44Mag revolver on the way!
I've never reloaded and haven't got a clue about it and the thought of chasing spent brass at the range (sans revolver) doesn't turn me on. However, once the reality of shooting the expensive ammo adds up I may have to reconsider.

Reloading is actually pretty straight forward. Read the books, watch the vids, and double check everything and you won't have any problems. It's actually kind of fun figuring it all out.
