I got a 12.5" HB from DLASK but I am having a h@ll of a time getting the oem barrel off. Installed all my other upgrades but the barrel swap is holding me up. Also, seeing as we are on topic are there any issues fitting the new barrel?

I remember seeing something about it but my search turned up nothing.

Regards,

maybe a little more info, where are you running into problems with the swap exactly? how far along the disassembly are you? im assuming you have the barrel / receiver out from the stock? trigger assembly and bolt removed? 2 barrel clamp bolts out?? at this point the barrel should just pull out of the receiver.. if its not its probably dirty as sin and u may need to get some kinda of penitrating oil on it and let it soak for a few hrs.. heat might be needed or a bit of a tap with a rubber mallet.

when I popped mine out I had to heat it up as they they used locktight or some kind of glue on the barrel shank in the receiver , I used a heatgun and propain torch and it popped.
Putting in the new barrel was anouther ball game , barrel in the freezer , heat on the receiver ,make sure everything lines up as there was only one shot at it. I have read that others have had to hone "paint" out the receiver and that has worked as well

I have changed a few barrels on 10-22's but the factory barrel on my SR-22 almost had me pulling my hair out. I ended up using heat and a brass punch to tap it out.
I polished the paint or what ever Ruger uses out of the receiver. I also polished the shank on the Dlask barrel and froze it to install it.

FYI.. Firearm is completely disassembled:, v-block & bolts removed, receiver out of frame, bolt removed, trigger group out etc. I have the volq. bolt mod done, a new volq. extractor installed, a synthetic buffer waiting to go in. All are ready for re-assembly into the receiver with the exception of the new barrel. I've done a few 10/22 mods already with no issue but this barrel will not budge! I guess heat will be my next option as I do see some form of adhesive (maybe red loctite??) .

Gonna try that now then keep you posted......

sounds like you should get away with some heat and some elbow grease, best of luck!

hope u didnt take offense to my first post, just hard to help with out knowing details!

Whhoo---hooo! Got it off! thanks for the help!

I used a propane torch and a few love taps from a rubber mallet! I was smart enough to bring my new barrel out in the garage with me and tapped it into place with the mallet while the receiver was still hot. All is well again! Now to continue with the build!

Glad it worked out ! remember to post picts for us ;)

my barrel was ridiculously hard to get off as well - took me over an hour of pulling and wiggling/racking the action and releasing it to get it to come out

I was going to buy one of these barrels.. now I'm having second thoughts - I'm certainly no gunsmith :(

I'm no 'smith either, it just takes a lot of wiggling if you have a bunch of crud built up. I put a few bricks through mine before removing the barrel so it was cruded into place, if it hadn't been so gummy it would have slipped right out no problem.

I would definitely buy another one, it's worth every penny if you want it to look a lot better

yeah.. well that's where I'm hungup, I can't decide if I like it better with the 16 or the 12.5.. I'm thinking I would prefer the twelve and a half with a nice brake on the end - don't really want to spend anymore to get a short handguard as i already have rails etc for the stock handguard.

My barrel had exactly one box (50 rounds) thru it so it was not cruddy as far as a rimfire action goes but it was hard to come off. A bit of patience and some helpful suggestions from CGN was all it took. I used a propane torch and a rubber mallet. I set up a padded cardbord box underneath to catch the receiver when it finally did break loose. Not too hard and easily done by anyone with a few basic tools. Don't be discouraged.. go for the 12.5" it looks uber tacti-cool :D
