Has anyone noticed lately in firearms mags, and in some of the better ones at that, semi automatic firearms such as 1911's and S&W centerfire auto's being called either locked breech blow back, or straight blowback operation?

You'd think if your going to get paid to write articles that you'd know the 4 types of firearm operation and be able to differentiate.

Sorry, waste of band width, but it bugs me and this is the only place i can vent it where folk might understand why it bugs me:redface:

Did you ever think this might be part of an effort to avoid using the dreaded politically loaded word "Semi-automatic" ??? Because the description isn't technically wrong...it looks to me they know of which they speak, but want to avoid antagonizing the banners.

yes it is technically wrong. They are short recoil operated. As opposed to blow back, (most 22s 25s and 32s) , long recoil operated (browning A5 shotguns, browning machine guns, or gas operated (garand, desert eagle).

The only real variation is the gas delayed blowback (p7 series, styer made one, norc made a copy)

Semi automatic describes how the action functions.

I never really noticed this but these days I am a fan of this Mag called Combat Handguns. It has had some good articles on CZ's, Wilson 1911's..etc.
