Is the Top brass of DND so full of itself, that it couldn't see that Civilian Competition could improve its training?

I think they have more important things to deal with.
And I don't really see how they'd be convinced 3-gun would improve Canadian military training if indeed it could.. Which I doubt.
Especially if it means spending money on it

My military experience is less than recent, but if things are even a little similar to what it was like in the 80's I doubt DND would spend a cent on anything not deemed essential.
Entertaining gunnutz isn't on their agenda

We have been running matches under our Canadianized rules we call BC Multigun.

Simply took some rules from a few of the multigun matches below the border and worked from there.

The first matches were run with IPSC scoring but we are looking at going to time based IDPA scoring for 2011. I ran a match this past Halloween with IDPA scoring and it worked well.

I like the idea of doing our own thing. Right now I am in discussion with the other member of our unofficial BOD looking at rule revisions for 2011.

As far as equipment goes our rules say that ANY Open equipment puts you in Open Div.

But "what" is "Open"?

That is why I think it is important to adopt a rule set that is already established!

You haven't given me a compelling reason to do so.......why should I/we adopt those rules?

You can;t just say do this!!!!.....and not expect someone to question your motives?

From what i've experienced, the outlaw matches provides the most comprehensive 3 gun match experience.

Open - Optics on any firearm, comps on any firearm, bipods on long-guns, any size mag for shotgun. Mod it like you want as long as it is safe and legal.

You define the divisions when you write your rules- like we did ;)

I took existing rules and rewrote them to what I thought made sense for us. Biggest difference is the Heavy Metal Div. The rules I looked at called for .45cal min. Instead I made it .40 but major PF. Lots of guys use this configuration to shoot IPSC SD so if they so choose they could build from there and go Heavy Metal Div.

So what other 3 Gun experience have you had?

Have you shot a USPSA 3 Gun Match?

I've shot a couple of the big outlaw 3 gun matches and numerous smaller ones. Unfortunately the one Uspsa 3 gun match that I could fit into my calendar last year morphed into a rifle only match and I took a pass on it.

In my limited experience no other shooting activity provides the excitement that outlaw 3 gun does.

I shot the last couple of USPSA MultiGun Nationals and I tell you I was impressed! The rules are relatively simple and straightforward as is the scoring. I have shot matches that used time based scoring systems and it works well but I don’t feel it rewards accuracy as efficiently as the USPSA standard IPSC type scoring. Daniel Honiers dad Andy developed a newer type of time based system that seems to be the best of both worlds.

I sure would like someone step up and take MultiGun into the mainstream in Canada; awesome freekin sport!!!

Personaly i would love to shoot USPSA multigun. I think many clubs (like Whitehorse)
have had a struggle to come up with a fair scoring system. That and the fact not everyone has or can afford a nice AR. So we now have more people interested for this year who have a sks, mini and down to people wanting to shoot .22 semi's. You can see where that's going.
Right now it seems that most just dont have the equipment for 3gun, so were stuck catering to keep and increase interest.

If people were really interested they'd get the equipment.
I know I sound like an #######, but... If I wanted to start playing hockey I'd have to go get myself a pair of skates and a stick.
You either have "the sickness" or you don't.
I'm all for welcoming people into a game, but watering down the rules in order to accommodate EVERYONE's gear isn't gonna help at all

I gotta say that I just about agree with everything that 667 has said, except regarding IPSC trying it on.

There's no real good reason to formally join USPSA. Use the rules you like for now. USPSA sanction in Canada is no more credible to a sponsor (US companies will work with their Canadian Reps) or CFO than a club fun match.

If I can convince IPSC to accept multigun, the IPSC name and reputation for safety, officiating, training and event level will be help to run more Multigun matches. I do intend to try; my first challenge will be getting the US to back the run for it - as if they, the biggest guys into it - don't - it will be considered not worthy at the General Assembly and meet a quick defeat. I hope to see the US RD at SHOT and discuss it. He just happens to work for STI, so I should know where to find him. ;)

As for Multigun ever replacing Pistol matches, Nah - Not a chance. Too much effort to set the creature up, too little locations capable of hosting it, a much smaller group of people that want to play with the other two guns. It would be great to see more Multi /3 Gun, but Pistol will always be the dominant action shooting competitions. It's convenience is too great.
