I tried searching for this before making a new thread.

I was wondering what kind of groups people have gotten with their SKS'. More specifically; with surplus ammo. I know that they're not know to be tack drivers or anything like that. Anyone have any pics?

I'll only be able to shoot out to 100m.

I notice people putting scopes on their SKS's. Isn't this a waste of time on a rifle not known for it's pinpoint accuracy? I've seen many on this board scoped.

My thoughts were along the same line.

I think as far as I would go scope-wise....would be a red dot.

There are guys who can get 2-3" groups that far, depends on the rifle and depends even more on the shooter. Scopes are nice for us that have bad eyes, just because you scope something doesn't mean it has to be a precision rifle...it just means you want to see what you're shooting at.

Bad eyes? Near sighted/far sighted? My eyes are as bad as they get, but with glasses can see 20/25. Haven't shot the rifle yet. So will try with iron sights first.

I shot mine out to 200 on the weekend dident shoot groups on paper but was able to hit about an 18" gong repetidlay 1 after another using surplus. Watching my brother do it through a scope showed a really cool explosion of sparks off the gong.
I'll have to try groups one day.

Thanks
Dave

^Cool. I think it would be interesting to see everyone with an sks post a pic of a group they shot. Once i get mine cleaned up, I'll definitely post mine.

Near sighted. Literally can't see more than a foot in front of me. Even with my glasses I can't really seperate things at 100 yards. Best I can do is try to shoot at the middle of the piece of paper, which is sort of just a white smudge.

half the reason behind the bigger groups is the mile long and rugged trigger pull. between the time you put your finger on it and you get a shot off, you've moved 4" to the left or the right.
search youtube and you can find lots of good videos of how to tear down your trigger, make it safer, smoother, and tighter for better groups.

Trigger Pull and Accuracy

Get some new glasses. They have tons of coatings now. I can see better with my pair with anti-glare coatings. I shouldn't talk because I might be in the same boat when I actually start shooting my SKS. Those lucky people with perfect vision have no clue what we are talking about.

Just dry firing mine, the trigger pull is short and soft. Unless it gets stiff when it's loaded... Definitely not a long trigger pull. Maybe they vary? Pull on my CZ 9mm is almost twice as long.

When I had a scope on my Chinese 18.5" pinned barrel it would do 2" with Czech surplus, Now without a scope I can put five in 3".

Mines got a nice soft trigger by the way.

Its accurate enough to take down a capitalist pig or a Fascist Dog.:p
LoL!!!
You mean a minute of Barn Bull Poop!
In Vietnam the would wait until they could see the belt buckel's of the capitalist invader's before they would fire.
Although in the current real would I live in...
Shooting a gong @ 200 meter's with iron sight's tends to be a crap shoot.

^^ ha ha! and thats all that matters!

i have a chinese and a russian and both started out with very sloppy and stiff triggers.
i opened them both up, did some filing, polishing, and basically followed what i had seen on youtube and now they are very crisp and smooth.
my main gripe was the mile long trigger pull. if you pop out the trigger group up and look in the tiny little oval window on the side, you can see that there is about 1/8" gap between the points where the trigger pull actually connects with the hammer release (sorry, i forget the actual terms) causing almost 3/8" of pull before connecting and releasing the hammer.
