Ceramic polishing media

I've bought from these guys and they're no problem to deal with except,, they will only ship 5 lbs at a time ?? Makes expensive media real expensive.

On the plus side, ceramic does a beautiful job and lasts indefinitely.

I've only tried dry media and the ceramic and am a fan of the ceramic. The results of that steel media are impressive though and the photos shown could just as well be the result of using ceramic media. Near as I can tell, one would be just as good as the other as far as cleaning brass goes.

As to that drying box, I have a covered plastic container roughly 18" x 18" x 9". I keep it about 1/4 filled with corn cob media. After cleaning, my wet brass goes directly into the corn com. I shake it all up (by hand with lid closed) for 2 minutes, then pick the bone dry brass out of the corn cob. Picking brass out of corn cob and vice versa is friggy to be sure but is relatively fast if you don't mind the effort and involves no heat. I'm not suggesting this is the hands down best way to do it but it definitely does work and gives 2 to 3 hundred dry 45 ACP brass with a half hour or so of effort.

I leave the lid of the container off for a day or so after use and the media seems to stay dry enough to dry brass perpetually.

Bedrock Supply in Edmonton has lots of different tumbling media. I bought 4 lbs of plastic beads from them for tumbling. Contact info can be found at bedrocksupply.com
 
A friend is getting me 5lb of stainless spheres, 0.040 in diameter. No idea of the costs yet - he's getting it from his supplier for free, to try it out. A jeweler's mix would be better - I suspect the spheres won't do much for primer pockets, but won't be as aggressive as cylinders, either.

I don't know much about ceramics - is it also for wet tumbling like SS media?

Try as I might, I just can't find any ceramic media sized 1mm on that website. All I can find is 1mm Porcelain beads, are those the ones you bought?

By the way, your link points to a page which is not there anymore. :(

Yep, I have some. Works better than ceramic, but still peens the case mouths a bit (looks like case mouths on new brass). No issue for pistol or bulk rifle, but I prefer ultrasonic for anything I use for precision.

You going to try ODPL again? Broke down and got a shorty to play with? w:h: Knew you'd come back to teh dark side sooner or later. To much playing with your bolt makes you go blind ;)

:redface::redface: Goofed ! They are porcelain. I never even noticed. They seem to work just fine though :).
