Just got this gun and went to the range and fired 250 rounds. Gun was great, when i got home and was going to start cleaning it, i noticed that the guide rod and unscrewed itself at least 4-5 turns. I did snug it up good yesterday when i cleaned it, im thinking this isnt normal. Any ideas? The guide rod on this gun unscrews with an allen key btw.

well ill check it again next time but i did snug it up pretty good, however ill admit my mind ant want it used to be, when i got it I took it apart and cleaned it and then resembled it. Then took it apart another two times for practice. Its awsome, my glock17 feels like it has more recoil then this beauty.

You can buy a regular GI guide rod and recoil spring plug for about 25 USD plus shipping from Brownells. No tools are required to fieldstrip and there's nothing that can unscrew itself.

I've had two of these pistols, and if you didn't tighten them down good they would back off like that. I don't like reefing little threads like that, so i put a drop of BLUE loctite on them. It keeps em together, and one drop will do for 5-6 dissasemblies before you need to re apply. Purple is also good. Green and Red are NOT your friend here.

I do have the blue but i clean my gun after every use and i dont want to be putting locktight on it. You know when you talk about pistols and whats reliable, i wouldnt want to carry this as a sidearm if i was a cop, shouldnt need to carry a wrench with ya to do a field strip. My glock is so simple its not funny. Maybe a G21 would have been a better choice. I do love the looks of this 1911, its a ###y beast and it works fine, maybe ill have to change the guide rod system.
