I agree with the .284 Win. What a nice combination it would be in one of those 80s Model 70 Carbines with 20 " barrel and only 5.75 lbs.w:h:
 
A Tikka T3 in 300 WM has a nasty recoil. A 7mm rem mag much less so. Accubonds in 160 and ready to fly.

That's because a 7mm mag is closer to a 30-06 class cartridge, as compared to a 300 win mag.

But neither of them are a great choice in a lightweight rifle.

I owned one of the 300 win mag winchester featherweights that were available for a short time in the 80s. It was violent, like standing behind a 747 at takeoff. You needed to pick yourself up and dust yourself off. Fast followups weren't an option.

Meh, I have a T3 in .338 Win Mag - 6lbs 9oz with scope. I also have a Mauser 96 (1996) in .300 Win Mag that weighs only a touch more. It spits out 220gr Partitions at 2850fps. While the recoil is noticeable, it isn't that bad.

I agree with Sheephunter.:D
 
I prefer a 7 m Rem Mag for just about anything I am hunting. But a 7m08 is just as good under 300 yards.

Oh and men real men start at 200lbs
