Hey Guys

I'm new to reloading and am hoping to shoot about 1000 - 2000 rounds a month so i am jumping right into a progressive. I'm reloading 45 ACP and 9MM to start .40S&W in future along with a few possible rifle loads in future. Ive compiled a list of the things i plan on ordering this week hoping some guys can chime in on whether i have made the right choices on equipment and whether i am missing anything.

what kind cal are you loading? if your shooting that much, i would suggest a much faster machine, like a dillon 650. or even a dillon 1050.

The Hornady LnL AP Progressive press is equally as fast as the Dillon 650.
To the OP I have both an Ultrasonic cleaner and a Vibratory Tumbler.
I prever the tumbler for cleaning brass. I use ground walnut shell media for cleaning the cases then corn cob media for polishing.
I get my walnut shell media at the pet store. It is Zilla brand used for lizzard bedding.
RCBS Lockout die to prevent under or overcharged powder.

Checkout ultimate reloader .com they have videos of all brands of progressive presses and the RCBS Lockout die in action.
 
I'd recommend the Dillon 650 over the Hornady LnL. I believe it is the better machine overall, but whatever floats your boat.

What I'd add to that list:
- case feeder - regardless of brand of progressive you run.
- tumbler - I'd do some research on the Stainless Steel needle bearing media and roll tumblers -but if you go with a vibratory tumbler get the biggest you can (I think that is the Dillon CV-2001) and source the media through a sand-blasting supply shop (they sell walnut media in 50lb bags for a fraction of what case media or even pet stores sell it for).
- Case gages.
- I'd also recommend the Dillon carbide dies for pistol calibers over most other brands.
 
i have looked at the 650 and honestly i love it i have been on the fence between the 650 and lnl for 2 months and have spent days researching which one is better and here i sit still between the 2. the reason i have chosen the lnl over the 650 is for these reasons.

1 from what i have been told and understand is the hornady powder measure is better at throwing a wider range of powders

2 the lnl is cheaper for fast caliber changes (yes i understand dillon can be faster but at a price)

3 hornady is available and fairly stocked near where i live and dillon is not

Now on the flip side there are many things i like about the dillon better aswell but i dont want to start another red vs blue thread so i will leave it at that.
I haven't included the case feeder in my list because it is usually in stock and will probably get it after i get set up and a little more comfortable on the press being that this will be my first time reloading. thanks for the advice on tumblers i will look into both i really appreciate all advice.
 
fair enough. sounds like you know what your doing. other than that sounds like a good list. case feeder and im sure youll be looking into a bullet feeder soon enough as well. i ahve a dillon vibrating tumbler. i would like to get the stainless pins and bearings set up. looks like it does a much nicer job of cleaning brass. but i might just need to change my media.

The SS pins won't run in a vibratory setup.
I wouldn't recommend that to a new loader unless they were starting from scratch.

What you are reading is a fair amount of mis-information.
Keep in mind that the dollar is at parity and either press or parts for them are easily bought on line, either direct from Dillon or from a number of US retailers in the case of the Hornady. Don't get soaked by the local retailer just because (imho).
Do your research and take opinions on the 'net with a grain of salt...mine included.
 
Dunno... get it from the states and then if you don't like it you will be always able to sell it on EE for marginal loss. Mine LnL is in setup stage.
Things i had to fix so far:
1. Smooth some rough edges
2. make pistol primer punch tad shorted to make it flush with the baseplate

so far the rest looks fine. I would like to see how Dillon is so much better than LnL.
If only anyone could invite me to check out 650 in operation that would be great.
 
so i checked out stainless tumbling media at stainlesstumblingmedia.com and checked reviews and everything i could find on it and its all good so i ordered the whole setup thanks for the recommendation it looks awesome. and as far as hornady or dillon the press and case feeder pretty much come in at same price really so it wasn't a factor in my choice other then the extra stuff you need for the dillon for fast caliber changes.
