1) What finish was used on the stock?

2) Did they load through the action from stripper clips or was the box mag removed to load?

3) Are the target diopter sights available for less than a king's ransom?

4) Does the receiver have to be drilled and tapped for the diopter sights, or are they a bolt-on piece?

Walnut pre-45 were oil, all beech stocks were shellacked. All refurbs were shellacked

Wen in military service, charges, or remove mag and load, or load mag with single rounds though the top, that's why the receiver top is beveled and has the thumb cut on the right side. Target shooting uses the latter two methods.

3) Are the target diopter sights available for less than a king's ransom?
Depends which king you're talking about :) PM or email me need some volume to bring the price down. I hope to order some by March

For K31s, clamps-on, just like the scope rail

Might want to try it first ,more than a few people curse the conversion as a chronic jammer ......................Harold

Ah... that's not a K31. It would be an 1889, for which they are no after-market accessories. Originally in 7.5x53 which is camparable pressure-wise to a 30-30.

Some 1911's were convert to .308.

All three are very different rifles.

*cringe* I can hear the milsurp purists everywhere screaming, I've seen some pretty botched 30-30 Scmidt bubba jobs.
 
No problem with the mount system. It mounts into the thumb cutout on the receiver right side and clamps from the inside of the receiver and the outside of the receiver.

Common mistakes made in choosing other scope components.
1) Really cheap scopes with minimal adjustment range. Sight were all on barrel as original made. Barrel true-ness to receiver was not critical for wartime service, therefore large range of adjustment is a good insurance policy.

2) Rings need to be 3/8" dovetail base(22lr standard). avoid see through variety as those can let the base slide over the ring stop on the front of the mount were the front scope ring must make contact.

3) Too large of an object force you use to height scope rings to clear the rear sight.
Cheek weld is better with low or medium height rings. med is good for 40mm objective.

4) Avoid rings that bring scope over center of receiver. K31 is top eject and is a pain to use in this manner. Not worth it the expense and agony. Side mount is fine for 99% of the population. other 1% is opinionated.

I've used a Buergin LHO device for many years, without jamming of any kind.

Not heard of any problems with one, me. I'd be interested, as would Carlos here, to learn of the frequency of the Buergin LHO device being a 'chronic jammer'.....and where, as well. :eek:

We can fully expect that the newly-introduced Swiss Products LHO device at substantially less than half the price of the Buergin offering will work equally as well. Lord knows it took long enough to develop and trial out.
