A buddy of mine was given a 222 and wants to use it for coyotes.

I am not familiar with the caliber and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it on coyotes?

It'll do the job within a reasonable distance you bet. 222 is a very underrated cartridge (these days)... it is has a very high potential in the accuracy department. Historically very successful in that dept... and its taken plenty of 'yotes too.

I have done a lot of testing with the .222. I did find that a 50 grain V-Max with 23 gr. IMR 3031 was a great combination. Varget a very close second. At 100 yards, it punched the dots on the target, but I would venture it to be a very good 'Yote caliber and have put one down at just over 300. ( rangefinder). I found it very comparable to my Savage .223. But I like the .222 better.

In a Savage 340 19gr RE7/50gr pill and coyotes are bang flops.I sent this to my Dad to use in Ontario for 15 or so years and it accounted for over a dozen Wt's and 3 black bear all one shot each.24gr Win 748/55gr Hornady with the cannalure.............guess it works?Harold

Wow a question about the old ,"King of the Bench Rest rounds". Sold my heavy barrelled Sako in the 80s. God i wish i had it now! Like someone already posted its just behind the .223 and IMHO the accuracy potential is greater. Watch out coyotes!!

sure hope it will.i have a savage 340b in 222 as well.seems to be quite accurate with facfory federal 50 grain soft points.bought it last spring and have yet to lay the smack down on any dogs.
