Sniper Engagement Rules- 50 calbre BMG

We are officially involved in the "war" in Afghanistan. There is no political correctness involved even at the government level. It is a counter insurgency operation which is warfighting. Call it what you want that makes you feel warm at night...still a war.

I was paraphrasing and I made a mistake. My post above should have read:

"If it is issued to you, you can kill people with it."

I don't remember anyone being issues white phosphorous, short of the white smoke grenades which are unpleasant, but not meant to kill.

Have we pulled out of there yet?

Pulling out is not an effective form of birth control FYI:p

And there seems to be some sheltered people out there. If we are not at war (which we are, I do not care what the media calls it) what are we doing blowing rainbows and carebear stares at the taliban? Pull your heads of of your back sides and wake up to reality.

Dont forget trip flares. Plus the Yanks are more than willing to share there munitions with us and they have all sorts of that stuff lol

Got to use some para flares for M203's overseas and surprisingly they work very very well.

True and I would (have) love(d) to get some MK262 Mod 0/1 for my rifle. Sadly, if the MP's or the CoC would have found out about someone being shot with unissued ammo, the shooter would be in a bit of trouble, I think. Which is really silly IMHO.

Hell, I remember hearing about some junior officer putting an Americain .50 on a LUWV before we had our own there (2005?), who got in a heap of trouble over it. Morpheus probably know about it.

Trip flares are a bad example. Much like the white smoke grenades they are not meant as an offensive weapon. Also they are magnesium, not phosphorous, which doesn't make all that much of a difference to you when your face is on fire

Haha very true. I am man enough to say when I made a mistake about something and I very well could of about the trip flares but thats all in the who taught you about it in the first place.

Heck I remember some master jack confusing MP's with the JTF2 so goes to show we are not all there in the brain.

Our CoC was cool with the yanks giving us some armour piercing .50cal rounds because they wouldn't jam up in the RWS like our issued junk did. Only thing they had a hard on for was wearing Oakleys instead of issued stuff. I can hear the RSM jacking the guys up now in my head. Good times haha

They also drove off a corvette (ship, not the car) with a Carl Gustav 84mm, now that's getting good bang for your buck.

With my history with the CG84, a ship might have been a target I could hit. :( Never had the opportunity.

Gunnerlove is correct, we're not talking ROEs, we're talking Rules of War.

.50 sniper rifles are good to go. And the CF has hardly kept this a secret.

Cheers,
DT

And, smoke with 81mm RP, cant use RP as a weapon, but it sure would suck to be caught out when someone puts a barrage of "smoke" down over your position.

canadas not at war were peace keepers and i doubt unless ww3 starts we will never be at war

What kind of idiot are you?

Canada is at war and is involved in the war in Afghanistann as part of NATO, and our commitment to NATO.

People like you should be banned for sheer stupidness. Any mods out there? Check out this Olanski's history of ignorance.

You piss me off. I've had a close friend die in this WAR.

uhhh weird question cus US army has 50cal MG mounted on their humvee and they do shoot at individuals

Exactly .... why would it be against the Geneva convention to shoot individuals with a 50cal through a scope but ok to use it through iron sights ?

The Geneva convention is useless anyway ... the USA and other countries have a million loop holes to get by things like that.....

using depleted uranium rounds causing cancer to the civilians should be against the Geneva convention

You have obviously never served in the military ... White phosphorous is one nasty son of a B ! the only way to get white phosphorous out of you is to cut it out with a knife ... water dont work. It will burn you and you will die or get very badly burned if it comes in contact with your skin

My Sergent major watched a man die after he picked up a White phosphorous grenade that did not go off initially..... nasty nasty Sh%t

and yes they can be used as smoke grenades but you better not be near it when it goes off

I see this thread going nowhere slowly.

I'm at a restaurant in the Toronto airport. My server is fat and keeps trying to flirt with 2 girls. Screwed up 2 orders so far. Not a fan. Might not tip this guy.

That's bullsh@t. I to have lost a few buddies in Afghanistan and my brother just recently returned. You call it what you want, those boys are at war. I suppose our respected vets from Korea were only in a "police action" right....
Narrow minded comments like this pisses me off to.

Whether or not some "action" is called a war is politics. The question of whether or not an action IS a war can only be honestly answered by the folks on the ground in theater.
