SIG 556 7.62x39 in production, to go on sale soon

I must've been living under a rock.

Apparently the SIG 556 in 7.62x39 will go on sale any day now in US. SRP $~1400 (in US.. we'll probably pay double that amount at least)

Best thing about it is that its gonna use standard AK mags. This likely means no BHO , but still a good thing IMO considering how common and reliable AK mags are.

Swiss made, non-restricted AK derivative? Where do i sign up?
EDIT: FAIL, didnt know that Sig 556 is not classified the same as Black special/classic green.

And not Swiss made either iirc, made in the USA to get around US importation laws just like the 556.

I was under the impression that the Black Special/Classic Green are basically Sig 556 Variants (which are civie versions of SIG 550 in US). Are they not?
If not, then EPIC FAIL on my part

Classic Green/Black Special are based on the 540/541. Made by Swiss Arms imported from Switzerland.

556 is a US copy of the 550 as mentioned.

The first pic is apparently of a Swiss Arms prototype 550 rifle.

What are the differences between 540/541 and 550/551? They look almost identical on all the pictures i looked at. Wiki says that 550 is based on 540, but doesnt say what the differences are.. Are any parts interchangeable?

^ No idea, but we are fortunate enough to get the real deal straight from Swiss Arms here in Canada whereas the US if forced to build a copy due to their import ban. .308 SAN is coming one of these days, until then its .223

What happened to that 550 proto in 7.62x39 that is pictured?
Does SA have any plans to produce it anytime soon? I'd trade my kidney for one.

No. Our Swiss Arms are based on the 540/541 rifle.

The 550 is prohib and so is the 556 as it is a copy of the 550.

Swiss Arms has indicated no plans to produce an X39 version, it was a prototype. SIG USA is making a X39 556.
