Norinco JW21 Lever action rifles

I've got a Norinco bolt (EM-332) that supposedly uses the same action as the Chinese Olympic teams. It's a copy of the BRNO, if I'm not mistaken, but I am VERY satisfied with it. The wood is very nice, finish is a lot better than I expected, it is super accurate and will feed anything I put in the clip. Just looked up the lever, and it's got my mouth watering now.

I read that not only will they cycle shorts, but also CB and even empty shells, due to the nature of the mechanisms in the action. Haven't tried, but its a solid gun. AND IT IS ADULT SIZED, not a "youth" sized like the henry.

The size on the Henry is a bit smaller. As I said I own both. But it's also sleeker, the action is quite a bit smoother and because it's a little smaller... it's also about a half pound lighter. If you wanna carry the heavier one.... power to ya! I still wouldn't call it youth sized. Perhaps you actually looked at the youth model that Henry carries, as it is intentionally shorter of pull and lighter yet.

Either way, the Norinco for 269 or the Henry for the same. Handle them side by side like I can at home, most people will make the same conclusion.

I saw those Henry's and thought they were kid sized shooters. I guess they are nice, but I like the machined reciever and the solid hefty feel of the Norinco. I hated the Browning BL22 I had cause it didn't feel like a solidly made gun to me........I'm a big guy, so I guess a pound extra of weight is not something I usually care about.
I did have a big weird look on my face when I took it out of the box, it had so much orange, rusty colored gritty oil on the gun and styrofoam that I thought it was made via sandblasting............of course , this gun is just like me, it cleans up nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update, I finally found an ammo type that has given me a feeding issue. I tried those Remington thunderbolts (green/yellow box) and the plain lead bullet jammed about every 4 or 5 cycles. Not bad really, I tried 7 different types of ammo, and the only one I can get to jam is that crappy Remmy T.B. junk.
I friggin love this lever gun.

I never bought them before, usually because they are always on sale, so I assume they are crappy, or they'd never need a sale to get them sold. I never see "sales" on ammo anyhow, so that usually is a sign.

I have a Henry and the big problem I have with it is that it's too light. An extra pound or two would help a lot.

I think if you expect a norinco to be anything but a little crude, you are setting yourself up for a let down. I have several and they are all crude but they work.

Oh yes I not saying the function of the gun is at all bad. I am just mentioning that I have seen better constructed guns from Norinco, and the pictures shown for this said gun looks quite crude even for our Chinese friends.

I would be tempted, if it didn't have that ugly cheap norinco stamped into the right (ejector side) side of the receiver!

And what's with the finish on the top of the lever on the same side, the finish looks spotty, kind of like a enamel coffee mug???

Does anyone know if these will cycle shorts?

I filled up the mag with shorts, and quick cycled them through. I got 1 fail to feed, the round got picked up but popped out of the bolt when it approached the chamber, but the rest cycled quickly with no problems. I had the grey winchester box with the 29 gr ammo as my test ammo. It's the only .22 short you can get up here.
I never got to actually shoot the ammo as I never got a chance due to a sick daughter that stayed home from school. I will take the gun out and shoot it with the .22 short ammo tomorrow.

Henry has a youth model avaialble, but the run of the mill guns will fit anyone who is reasonably normal in shape.

I can't see these being better quality than the Henry's.

As far as Barrels go I would be willing to bet that the barrels are identical to all Norinco's other barrel, just turned to dimensions that allow it to work within the parameters of the gun.
