For all you guncranks out there, I've got an older Cooey model 710 with a regular bolt face, but I'm not a big fan of the safety. Is there any aftermarket trigger assemblies available for these or even a way to modify the action to accept something? Someone has told me that this was winchester's version of the model 700 so I was hoping....
Please don't tell me that I shouldn't waste money on this action as it was my grandfathers and I have many other guns that I enjoy and would sell but this one has to stay so I'm thinking of building it into something. (the action is surprisingly nice and has always shot great!)

This was Winchesters version of a bare bones entry level firearm there are no after market anything available for it and for that matter no parts of any type available for it .it is what it is.

I fought this same battle with the Cooey Mod 71. As was stated before, "it is was it is". Sorry dude

"...no after market anything available for it..." Or any Cooey.
However, a 710 is rumoured to be a Cooey made, entry level, Win M70. So a Timney M70 trigger might fit. Problem is that it won't do anything for the safety and it'll cost you $119.95US to find out. Just changing the springs will help the trigger pull. Wolfe Model 70 springs should do.
Isn't the same as a Cooey M71. No parts for them any more either. Got lucky, long, long ago, at W.R. Long(in Coburg then) when Mr. Long Sr. was still alive. Had a busted extractor and bad headspace. Cost me $35(fair chunk of money then, but I had more then too.) to fix. Mr. Long took it in the back of his shop and fixed it in 10 minutes.
A Win M70A stock, if you can find one, will go on a 71, if you open the recoil lug back 1/8" and glass bed. Did mine about 30 years ago. Just drops in otherwise, except the trigger guard is longer on a 70A. The front screw just holds the guard on, so you can get away without one.

I hear ya, and your right. I was met with the similair challenges. Thats why I walked away from the project and sought out a true Win Mod 70, (not a distance cousin or limited run variant).

There was a guy near Dunnville ON thats knew all there was to know about these guns. Even had some parts and barrels for them last time I talked with him. Its was Sharp's Guns or along those lines.
