Yep, essentially the same as the white box stuff. I think I read over on RFC that they came from a different plant than the white box stuff did, but that's a bit of a guess. Performance is consistent with the old white box.
you mean Win Dynapoint GT black box / gold writing? around $30 for a box of 500 at Crappy Tire? i LOVE that stuff - well, my S&W 22A loves it. works like a charm, maybe 1 dud out of a box of 500.
There basically just fooling the consumer with packaging and marketing.
It's the exact same ammo but....
White box Dynapoints are packaged by Winchester for distribution by Wallmart
Black box Dynapoints are packaged by Winchester for distribution by Can Tire
That way, they make you think their 2 totally different types of ammo, thus letting them set there own pricing and not undercutting each other for your business.
I've been using the dynapoint GT's ever since they jacked up the price of the federal blue box to 30.00. The GT's are 23 or 24.oo at the local CT making them the cheapest .22 available unless by some stroke of a miracle the Wally world has the 555's in stock. I had read somewhere that the GT's have a higher muzzle velocity, but I cant find any info on either box I have here. I have had no problems with them either other than they are a bit dirty to handle.
I find Walmart the best place to get the Dynapoints. They were $18 per box of 500. I stocked up at that price and use them for gophers. They are not target ammo by any means but usually minute of gopher. I would estimate averaging about 3/4" groups at 50 yards or three times that of really good target ammo in my Savage BTVS. They can group tightly, but there are so many flyers that it is very hard to get any kind of consistency. Here are some groups at 50 yards.
White box for Wallmart and Black box for CanTire. I see those recently at CT. I'm very happy about these news because they cost less at Ct than WM. Dynapoint are really consitant and accurate because they aren't hyper velo.
i haven't had any luck with them either. i like the white box stuff for plinking with my kids with open sights and chase the can kind of stuff. no luck with fine accuracy with any of my 22s. they are however almost as quiet as a subsonic. it cuts down on pissy neghbors and the police calls due to noise. the 333s and 555s are the same but in different amounts. more accurate than the dynapoints imho but have different reports when you rapid fire with a semi. hv seems to be the leftovers as i have almost all misfires and other problems with them
I used white box and now only black Dynapoints. They look alike but somehow my white box dynapoints were more accurate. My Savage once shot a 1 inch 5-shot group at 100 meters out of my Savage MarkIIF, and many groups just over 1", but I have never duplicated that performance with black box dynas. Reliability (lack of misfires) of black box seems a tad better than the white box ones.
