I have a deactivated Long Lee stamped "BSA 1896 LE I".

I was wondering if anybody could tell me what the marks on the top of the butt plate mean. It is stamped "5" over "CA" and under that "230".
Thanks!!

Deactivated not by my doing! Looks like it was done over 50yrs ago.

Thanks Woodchopper! Rack 230 would be the # of that gun as used by that Battery?

I might be wrong.

I'm going from memory ;) CA could also be Cadet Artillary (Austrailia)

The 5th Battery was stationed in Esquimalt, is the rifle Canadian marked

I can't see any C/|\ or anything. It does have a bunch of War Dept. "WD /|\" marks on it and the butt stock has "BSA & Co Birmingham II" on it. Thats all I can find.
