Its 1895, the world seems at peace under Pax Britannica, but you don't see it that way. The Crimean War, the Franco-Prussian war, Fenian raids, all part of a bigger trend, a general breakdown of western civilization looming on the horizon. What better proof than the electric fan? Only on the market for 9 years and already being shat upon.

Time to prepare for the big one. You don't know when or how the conflagration will befall the Dominion of Canada, but you want to be ready when the time comes, and that means buying guns. But what would be the best choices? You know how to make your own black powder so thats your only criteria.

What would you get?

a 10 ga win lever shotgun.
a S&W schofield 45 cal revolver for fast reloading.

id like a winchester in 45 70 lever gun to if the skys the limit ;)

a remy derringer to! might wants play cards, lol

A multi barrel blunderbuss would be cool:p

It would depend what I had to do,and where I had
to do it,in the city or the country.
In the city,it would be something that could be
reloaded quick,country, a shot gun.

Yup, 50/70 then 45/70, both BP......I'd opt for a '74 Sharps in 50/90, a Win '73 or '92 in 44/40, and a Colt SAA in the same .44/40...bring it on!

Something simple. If it's just life outdoors away from contact, a double barrel cap and ball gun... .50 if lead and powder are plentiful. I'm speaking from complete lack of experience, but over and under might make for a more accurate gun if practicing was limited due to supply.

In addition caps are the only thing you really can't make yourself easily. Projectiles could be improvised in a bind, and even gunpowder may be possible.... though incredibly unlikely.

If I had slightly better supply, then a pistol and rifle in the same cartridge - 44-40 or 45 long colt... those're what I'm familiar with. Colt SAA's are supposed to be hardy, though I don't know that as a fact. Maybe S&W #3 if repairs were available occasionally. Maybe a marlin 1893 lever gun?

If I had even better supply, a big caliber cartridge gun and pistol.

If only one gun was allowed and there was some chance of resupply, a lever gun in 38-55.

45-70 and a peace maker and of course if ammo gets scarce a long bow looks Like its not just the Tacticool bunch that get to play this

During SHTF the SKSs will disappear just as much as anything unregistered.

The hell? Posting for the post count there?

On topic: If I have the resources 10g Winchester 87 and a .45 Colt revolver of any kind. If not, a 45-70 lever rifle will do. If I had to be moving around alot, a .45 Colt revolver.

I would be in favor of appointing a Royal Commission Inquiry into the Acquisition of Arms in the event of aggression from foreign Governments.

A lever would be the ultimate( new fangled pricey tech) but any nice surplus rolling block in any of the bigger cals, and an average shotty would keep me comfortably feed with venison and passenger pigeons(at least until humanity hunts them out of existence coincidentally? about the the time the SHTF or Big War occurs). I won't have a particular need for handguns as I will be too busy working my acreage trying to keep the family fed and realistically other than the rare trip to town for supplies I won't generally be within someone's pistol range :)

I would choose my Brown Bess or Charleville without hesitation.

All you need is powder and balls and your good to go, no need for primers or caps or brass.

Easy to load, versatile arms use it with shot for small game or ball for larger fare.
