Hello fellow CGN'ers,

I took my VTR out for the first time yestarday, after buying it brand new. Shooting Dynapoints, I would get maybe a few shots, and then 'CLICK'... nothing... The striker put a small indent on the back of the cartridge, but it wasn't hard enough to make it shoot.... In other words, there is something faulty in my VTR, and I have no idea what is causing the problem...

I did a search on the forum, but couldn't find any other posts about this issue...

Again, I do not have ejection - type jams, it's that every 3rd or 4th shot wouldn't fire, you would just hear a click sound...

Any help would be much appreciated,

Alon

did you try to put the round back in the chamber at a different angle and fire it again? at times all it takes is a different location on the primer ring.

though i've had ONE round in my 22 pistol that refused to fire after 6 equally-spaced strikes around the rim... was fun to index it each time, but the sucker never went BANG.

First of all thanks for your insight on my issue so far. As to how many rounds were dented but not fired: I would say 1 out of every 4 ! :(

You didn't say if you cleaned it well before you used it. Perhaps it doesn't like that ammo. I have a couple and they like the CCI stuff. NOT the CCI Blazer garbage, but the good CCI stuff.

try different ammo. my 22LR handgun loves those black-box dynapoints, but HATES silver-box Win HVXpert. others have the opposite results. my handgun also didn't like CCI Blazer stuff while others love those rounds.

i have yet to try my 597, though (just got it on Friday)

Do the guide rails and hammer it will work like a race gun and it will feed any thing you give it with 0 issues?

To adjust the guide rods and do the mods go to this website anybody with half a brain can set up this gun it is well worth the effort. I have fire thousand of round through mine so far 0 feeding issues with multiple brands of ammo. Just make sure that the elle crapo plastic mags are latched in properly don’t try to put 30rds in keep it to 25, And yes the some time fail to keep the bolt open on the last round.

Sell your Remington to a newbie and buy a Ruger! Or buy a Ruger and feed it the Remington, either way, get a Ruger..........

Very Helpful... Oh I see that is coming from a newbie, perhaps he wants to buy the Remington! :stirthepot2:

Got the same gun, had the same problem. Not sure where your located but Mine works decent in warm weather, as soon as its below 0 the failure to eject and failure to fire starts happening. Doesnt seem to matter what ammo either. those plastic 30 rounds clips you can buy, YAH they just seem to add to the problem. try putting only 7-8 rounds in your orginal 10 round mag, mine works great with only 7-8 rounds in the original mag, not saying thats right you have to do this, but it works for me. mines jsut a plinker anyway.

Try running it dry and the guide rods loose during winter month. I use dry silicone lube and the guide rods are another half turn out from the spot when you fell resitance.

mine did that then i put in the VQ target hammer and with federal blue 525 it runs like a watch, 3 boxes of that an i honestly cant remember a misfire. also as satain said loosen the guide rods and make sure they are even, there are a bunch of tutorials for that online. good luck

try rimfirecentral.com some serious issues (similar to yours and others ) were addressed on this site . Get the gunk off . look at rails and springs , adjust the retaining screws for same . The VTR is a serious tack driver when it functions . Good luck.

My 597 hates any winchester ammo, I think it has to do with the "W" on the head. I have the exact same result, every few shots it fails to fire.

I shoot federal bulk packs with good accuracy and complete reliability.
