270 wsm, a good all around caliber for moose and deer?

NO!! Everyone knows a 270 can't kill anything bigger than a deer! :p Seriously though, it should work excellent on deer and be fine for moose, although if you shot more moose than deer the 300 wsm would be a little extra insurance. (270 fans would probably disagree) Just use appropriate bullets, (applies to any cartridge) and you'll get good results.

It says magnum. It shouldn't bounce off under 100yds.

Use tuff bullets for the bigger critters though. That is a fast cartridge that can do funny things to cup and core bullets. 130gr TTSX and 140gr Accubonds would be my first two picks, and have been for that cartridge.

I almost prefer huntig with my 270WSM since I bought 2 in 2005. Love the performance on elk, moose, deer. 140gr Accubonds are my bullet of choice - reloads or in the Winchester Supreme ammo. Taken animals 1 shot kills-double lung complete passtrhu penetration from under 100m to 400m. Last for me was a large cow elk @ -33 degrees Celcius @ 200m - she flipped ovr backwards DEAD !! My wife took a mulie buck @ 400m and cow elk @ 150m in 2005 and a bull moose @ 325m in 2006.

You do your part in shooting for a clean kill, the 270WSM will do the job!!

I use this caliber for deer and moose. Great choice. Mainly used the 140 grain accubond. Almost always in and out except for a moose. I used a 130 ballistic tip once at about 75 yards...the bullet exploded...tiny little bits and no exit obviously, but lets face it, I know this because the animal tipped over, but I'll never use them again. Total meat destruction.

+1 ballistic tip should not be used for hunting ..accubond is a much better bullet .

+1 on the accubond, the wsm is capable of speeds that will make lesser (non-bonded) bullets do funny things on impact. I am moving the 140gr at 3200 FPS.
