Hello

I am looking at having Martini and Hagn of BC put together a custom rifle for me and I was just wondering if anyone could comment on their quality, accuracy or customer service? They seem like great people but I want your opinions. Thanks in advance.

There was a fella posted on here about a year or so back, that he had had them make him a Tactical rifle, and that he was not happy with the results.

It may have been a case of miscommunications between them, or it could have been that the rifle was outside their normal lines of work, but the fella was definitely not a satisfied customer.

I would say that as long as you are looking for something that is in their area of expertise, you should be fine. Lots of clear communication about what you want, and what you expect, eh.

Your dime, your call, but I think that expectations may vary a lot with the amount you are willing to spend. A fella that is going to drop the full wad on one of their own actions from the ground up, probably has different expectations than a guy looking to get a Mauser barrelled and mounted in a composite stock.

Cheers

A friend of mine had them build a 470 Nitro double for him for Africa - SUPER impressed with the work that they did!:)

I take my firearms to Ralph Martini's shop for mods and repairs.

Once while there I noticed one of his custom rifles standing in the rack next to me. Ralph reached over and handed it to me. It was a .22-250 built on their Hagn falling block action.

I've never handled a gun of any kind, anywhere, or frankly speaking, anything else of any kind, that exhibited that kind of craftsmanship! As I've said before, just about brings tears to your eyes! Quality of fit and finish was about as close to perfection as it possibly gets. And the wood used was spectacular.

He always has at least 2 years of worth of orders to build, and his custom rifles are world class and world renowned.

Far as I'm concerned, if one can add one of his works of art (literally) to their collection, they have arrived!

Ralph and his staff are the guys that do my rifle work; no other will touch my rifle (If only I could have the same security with my handguns, and shotguns!). I've held on to, but not shot one of their rifles, and it's what dreams are made of! Ralph personally does all the work on the single shots, but the other guys in the shop help with the mausers. For repairs, they have set up a second shop.

I think gunsmithing is somewhat of a sideline for Ralph, and that his staff handle most that work while he oversees it. He focuses almost exclusively on the custom work. I think he learned his craft in Austria. And I know that Hagn was a "Master" gun maker, although I think he's no long involved in the business.

BTW, I took my Ithaca Model 37 12 ga. to him to have all the metal work reblued, and a replacement stock and forearm I found on the net installed.

His shop is the only one I'll take my guns to, also!

I may be wrong, but IIRC all the 'smiths in that shop have European tickets, do they not?

I think that they're all at least guild members; I could be wrong though. Irregardless, they all do excellent work, and all meet Ralphs basic requirements, or they wouldn't be working for him.

Fine work.

I also held a Hagn action custom in .300 wby that Ralph had take to Africa.

Fit and finish looked fantastic. They are out of my price range, but if I had the means I would certainly own one.

He is doing another rifle for me. Impressive shop and great people.
