Norinco chew wood vs Polytech synthetic

I just ordered a finished Boyd’s walnut stock too.
I stained and finished my original chu wood stock and it actually looks really good, but it is soft and will eventually get banged up pretty good.

I figured I’d order a Boyd’s stock now for a spare in case of a future price increase or legislation change makes this stock unavailable to us in Canada.

If you can post a pic of the refinished chu wood stock just for interest.

Wow. The stock cleaned up nice. The whole setup looks good actually.

Is that the factory barrel shroud or has that been replaced?

My M1 is on top. Both my buddy's M1 and mine are re-stocked with Boyd's walnut stocks. Life is good.

Cheers,

Damn, those are nice!

To the OP:

I've bought a few 07 norcs, restocked them both. One with a USGI fiberglass, the other with a Polytech synthetic stock. IMO you'd do fine either way, but I do find the Synthetic stock to be lighter than the USGI one.

What scope is that?
Where is the cheek rest and scope mount from?

That scope is an NcStar 2.5-10 P4 from Marstar, now removed, it wouldn't hold a zero.
Tried a Bushnell 3200 3-9 from Frontier Firearms, removed, it wouldn't hold a zero.
Now have a Falcon Menace 4-14x44 EMD scope on it from Frontier Firearms. Haven't shot the rifle yet with that scope. If I still have a wandering zero I will have to assume it is caused by the ARMS #22 low throw lever rings and I will replace them TPS or Smith EDM rings that are not quick release.

Tac Pro cheek riser from Fabsports.

Sadlak Industries Airborne M14 steel scope mount from Brownells.

Nice leather sling? If you really have a jones for the 1907 model and leather (or synthetic) is your love, then consider a Turner Saddlery sling for your M14 or M1 Garand.

I google'd them and yes, they ship to Canada. I have a Biothane Turner Saddlery sling on my M1 Garand. It will be the last sling you will buy for your M14 rifle.

Have a look at this pic:

Ended up finding a sling tonight. Brown leather military style with brass hardware....similar to the one you mentioned. Made by BOYT. Still ended up being $60 but it was there in my hand and I liked it so at least I have it.

By some miracle my Boyds stock showed up today in time for the clinic tomorrow. I can't beleive how quick it got here. I didn't expect to see it untill later next week.
Looks really nice. I am very happy with it.

Mine arrived today too. It's too bad my second gun isn't here yet, nor is the krieger barrel for my first gun, which is in bits on my bench. At least I have my AR10 to play around with till the new gun comes in next week:D

I have a 2007 Norinco M14 with the chew wood stock. Not impressed with the stock. I was looking at the polytech with the black synthetic stock. Are the Polytech stocks much of an upgrade? I know a lot of guys were puting the USGI stocks on the Norincos. Not sure if I want to go that route or not. Is it worth getting the Polytech instead of the norinco?

You may not be impressed with yuors but... here is what i did with my chew wood stock ...its amazing how far a little elbow grease will go :)

I've owned a couple of Chinese Chu wood stocks and one of the new Chinese synthetic stocks. If I was making the choice again, I would get the Chu wood, because it would make less smoke when it gets thrown on the fire.

Did you spray it yourself or actually take it to linex or one of those places?

Stock only, 3 passes thru the pots and pans cylce in my cousins new dishwasher (Don't tell his wife:eek:). A light sanding, then sprayed on a few coates of CanTire EZ? truck bed liner. Worked like a charm!

Outstanding pittboomer.
See, for all the people that immediately took their chu wood stock off and used it for a fire pit poker, with some effort it can be made to look awesome.
You took something that everyone else says is garbage and turned it into a thing of beauty.
