Im torn between these two rifles:

For the life of me, i cant seem to figure out the discrepancies in price. other than the fact that one has a different style of stock, is there any difference between the rifles? Is one more accurate than the other?
Is there any company who makes larger magazines than what is provided? 5 rounds will disappear pretty fast.
go for the bottom one. stock may not look as cool, but its retardedly accurate. With the right ammo, my wife can put 10 into a quarter at 50 no issues at all. Hers likes CCI Stingers. 10 round mags are easy enough to find. Savage 10 round 22 mags can be found at any of the gun stores I know of. I've got half a dozen 10 rounders between the 2 savage 22's i've got
I know no one else would mention Winchester on this one, but i have a target wildcat with a adjustable trigger, heavy barrel, and tasco 6-24 target scope. With target ammo i can do 5 shot groups @ 100 yards under an inch and all for under $600 with scope, bases, and rings.

when you mention a budget of 600$...do you include the scope and rings as well in the package?
I personnaly own a Savage Mark II TR in 22LR and love it!
I do some shoutouts with friends and they have CZ 452 varmint....
I would say out of the box in term of accuracy, both these guns are equivalent....after, it is a question of handling, quality of material used and finish etc...
If I had to buy a new 22 today, I would go with a CZ 452 FS (full stock)...I love its looks and you don't need to scope it and it is very accurate out of the box.
Conclusion IMHO...both CZ and Savage are excellent 22LR out of the box, after, it is most of the time a question of $$$

and i figured as much for the mags, i just didn't know if that rifle uses proprietary 5 rounders only.
Hey Donster~not to throw a wrench in things, but get out and hold one of those thumbhole stocks and THEN decide if it's right for you. If you're planning on ever shooting off-hand, bull-barrels are muzzle-heavy..it won't be easy. (getting to my point slowly) I held one in the store, felt AWESOME. When I bought one, threw a bipod on it, and tried shooting prone, I had an entirely different opinion. The stock required that I plug my thumb into it at a very specific angle...kind of forcing my wrist into an uncomfortable angle.
Not everyone might share my opinion on that, but all I'm suggesting is that you get your mitts on one you don't own, hold it in the position you plan on shooting it, THEN make your decision.
If I were buying a Savage .22 today, it might be the Mark II FV-SR for prone or bench shooting (tactical looking)..the TR is cool too For carrying/hunting, I'd pick the Mark II FSS. Off-hand shots easier, and it's a lighter gun.
Winchester Wildcats~pretty overwhelming love for these guns from those who own them, worth a look probably. Unlike Savages, I've don't have 1st-hand experience with them though, and Winchester has stopped "making" (importing re-branded Toz) the heavy barrel version.

Nice guns out of the box, accutrigger can't be beat. Don't go crazy on the stock, I bought a simple Mk II with synthetic stock then found a nice Boyds later. Like the OP I didn't like the thumbhole on my buddys gun. Savages are easy to scope, mags are cheap and available everywhere. Look up Boyds stocks and their excellent TactiCool (cheasy named) are going for $92 bucks.

I just bought the Savage BTVSS in 22 WMR. ($460.) If you want a bloody accurate gun you can target shoot with and still dispatch varmints/small game at 100 yds. get a 17 HMR or 22 WMR. I've shot 22 WMR in the past and fell in love with the tight groups and ballistics.
If your only after pop-can sniping and paper targets, stick with a 22 LR.

Here is my answer to your question.
Groups are 5rds at 100 and 200rds with SK Rifle match.
Nuf said....

200yds - 1 1/2" - lowest one is the first fouling rd after shooting some other match ammo.
