The Most Accurate Rimfire under 600 Bucks?

Either of the Savage HB rifles should serve you well. I have a TR and am very happy with it. You just need to find the "right" ammo for the gun. With SK Standard Plus and Rifle Match it will hold 1moa out to 150yards so far.

From reading various posts, I believe most of the Savage guns tend to shoot the SK ammo very well.

Hey Donster~not to throw a wrench in things, but get out and hold one of those thumbhole stocks and THEN decide if it's right for you.

thanks for the input. i have held one and found it very comfortable, but that was while standing. i cant really go prone inside the gun store :p

I'm biased towards Savages, but CZ's are also fine rifles!

Here's my Savage BTVSS .22LR -- a real tack driver and well made!

3-9x40 Burris Fullfield II scope (came with a nice bipod)
Walnut laminate thumbhole stock
Stainless heavy barrel
Accu-trigger
Browning sling
Extra 10 round magazine
Total cost for everything with tax: $872.95

Thompson Center R55 all weather is the most accurate 22lr in Canada for under $600. And its a Semi. It absolutely without question outshoots bolts, the only new bolt in Canada it won't outshoot is the anschutz 54 or special order remington 40x (if you get a good one) bleikers are hit and miss. They are ammo sensitive and must be broken in before they will cycle all ammo and the followers on the mags sometimes need to be changed before ammo will feed properly. once they settle down, they feed reliably, and always shoot accurately. It does outshoot the Sako m78, CZ line, Savage line, sub 54 , including weatherby, cil, and actual anschutz 64.

That's pretty impressive. Please post some pics.

After reading your post,I went online to research this gun,and while most groups posted would compete with a modded 10/22,I wouldn't bet on the R55 shooting smaller groups than my Cooper Jackson Hunter. My Cooper costs considerably more than $600,but it does average 1/4" to 3/8" for five shots at 50 yards with a 3-9 scope, and SK Standard Plus loads.

I'd have to see it to believe it could outshoot my Cooper 57M LVT....

CZ452 Varmint all day long. At 50 yards I can't even measure the groups because there isn't a group to measure. It's called a hole...

...and it's .22" across.

You don't have to believe anything, trying is the best way to find out. The only reason the post was made is because that is what happened. if your groups are that size, the TC will absolutely shoot with your Cooper, no question.

Most of the R55 groups posted online, were between 3/8" and 1/2",and many of the R55s had high powered scopes mounted.Perhaps the R55 that you shot was a better than average example.

The five shot test groups that came with my Cooper were fired with a 36x scope, and they were well under 1/4" actually around 1/8",but high end target loads were used.I just happen to use a 3-9 scope, and I won't spend the money on the high end loads.

How about best .22 rifle for under $201 dollars? This scoped Savage MKIIF cost me $200 shipped/insured, from the EE. It once did a 5-shot one inch group at 100 meters with cheap Winchester Dynapoints in the white box. Never duplicated that one but 1.3 - 1.5 inch groups are repeatable quite often. I do not buy expensive ammo because that will defeat my purpose in shooting .22s.

No need to split hairs for the op, guns will vary even guns from the same manufacturer. Being an accuracy junkie you can be assured TC R55's are no 10/22. 17 22's have been given the boot from the safe as they can't keep up. For under 600 you will be hard pressed to find anything more accurate. With high end ammo the TC is amazing and well worth the $550 it cost. Coopers are wonderful and so are so many others, for the money TC is near impossible to beat, that's all.

If you only want accuracy for the buck the Savage may be the way to go. There action is really crude IMO and I would pick the CZ every time. You might look at the T bolt.

CZ's are very hard to beat, fit and finish is outstanding they are consistent from gun to gun, and a real pleasure to shoot, for the money very hard to overlook.
