Range shooting at reactive targets

Does anyone else have this strong urge to stop shooting paper and bring along a few plastic pop cans, aluminum cans, milk jugs, bowling pins, etc.....then have some fun by setting them up and blasting away!

Seems like paper targets are really becoming borring!!!!!!!!!

But the dilema is that most of the ranges that I knowof and the one that I go to always has range rules posted up in big black letters stating that this is not allowed. I live in the North Okanagan.

Has anyone else been tempted and have broken the rules by shooting at these things? Are there any ranges in the North Okanagan that allows for non-paper targets.

Sounds like you need to find some land to shoot if you have non restricteds. Becareful where your bullets will end up also. Its not worth getting caught and kicked out of your club to break the rules like that.

Yes paper targets get boring but...
 
Reactive Targets

It sounds like you might enjoy IPSC or Action Shooting. They have a variety of interesting targets that move and some made out of steel plate.

northern okanagan has many great places to shoot. just drive around on crown land til you find a place with enough range and a good backstop. and no, firing into the forest and assuming your bullet will hit a tree is NOT good enough. i love shooting steel more than anything. there is just something magical about that "ting" especially when you can fire your shot and "wait for it" as in 200 yards plus. i go out in the bush all the time and shoot at whatever the hell i want. just remember to be kind and clean up after yourself!

definate 2nd on that one. Action shooting is a great way to shoot reactive targets with restricted firearms. As for bringing your restricteds into the bush...play at your own risk
 
I know a place across the border (Detroit, MI) that has moving targets in an indoor range. Haven't been there, but sounds interesting. From their website:

"Action Impact has recently upgraded to Mancom computerized target systems with advancing and turning targets. The range also has an ultra-high capacity air handling system that completely changes the air every 60 seconds."

What is the name of the place? Where is it?
 
One of the clubs I belong to asks members not to shoot such things, however I had a chat with the president and he doesn't mind as long as members clean up after themselves. I usually bring a large tarp ( 10 x 10 ) lay it on the ground and simply shoot things on it. This way you can simply wrap it all up, throw in the trunk and be on your way.

About 8 miles from the Windsor/Detroit tunnel. (8 miles is still in the "ghetto"-abandoned-burned out houses, etc). Went to Royal Oak a few times, but this place is supposed to be better. Can rent and shoot there without any gun licence, just with your ID. AK47, MP5, full auto, little snub noses we can't get here, fill 16 round mags in handguns and 30+ in rifles, etc. Not cheap though.

We shoot all kinds of things...phone books , worn out steel toe boots , milk jugs and footpowder... the key is to always leave the range OR gravel pit in the same state you found it in. If you are respectful of the others and clean up then there is normally not an issue. MY pet peeve is the people who place targets on the target frames and shoot the wood all to hell...they are the reason for increased range fees.

X1 that tee's me off replacing frames, if you get the chance ask you grocer for expired fruit (grapefruit, canolope and watermelon) = awesomeness
 
Ice balloons, milk jugs full of frozen dyed water, blocks of same, made in milk cartons or margarine tubs. Lots of reactive, not so much to clean up. Esp. if you cut the covers off them beforehand.

Eggs! Hit one at 200 yards and you feel smug! Seen some write-up of egg shoots on one of the small caliber forums, as an event. Egg tee'd up on a piece of plastic tube or pipe.

Candies. Paint balls. Things that blow up when hit, but do not leave a lasting mess. Gotta choose your spots for those.

I'm pretty fond of using the old shotgun hulls that are usually abundant and laying around. Fill them with sand, and stand them up, or leave them laying down. Fun. Shoot the crap out of them, then pick em up, and bin em.

The resetting steel rimfire targets that CTire sells are fun. A can of spraypaint to redo the plates is a good buy!
