IPSC BB Mag Pouches?

Going to be taking my Black Badge at WSSC in February.

I have a Sig P226 E2 w/ TLR-2S and 5 mags.
Raven Concealment Phantom Holster
Galco Nylon Instructors Belt 1.5 inch

What I don't have is any mag pouches.

I see freedom ventures has iTAC double pouches, and double tap has ghost individual pouches.

I hope to do a bunch of local practice after I get my BB and a few matches, but what I am mostly after is 3gun style matches, so that is my main focus.
 
The double mag pouches will work, and you don't need the light. If you want to shoot IPSC, and have the light on the gun, I believe that puts you in Open division, but, if you are just there to have fun............go for it!
 
The holster only works with the light mounted, I really don't care about classing, I am going to be near the bottom of whatever class I end up in for a while anyways!

Is iTAC a decent brand? I would rather buy once and keep my gear for a long time.
 
Well, I am not a BB Instructor, but I have helped out on a couple courses, and have taken a couple of other related courses. My experience has shown, that keeping it simple is always better....less things to break, and go wrong. You will have other class mates, and no one wants to be "that guy" that is fiddling with equipment, because it is breaking, or constantly needs adjusting.

I have never used the ITAC gear, but Sean, the owner of Freedom Ventures, will give you a straight answer, as well as Josko at Double Tap Sports. They both shoot IPSC, and won't steer you wrong equipment wise.

I have the CR Speed Pouches that I use for IPSC, but I also have various other mag pouches and Holsters for different types of events. MultiGun stuff kind of demands a rugged retention system, (course designers often have you going over obsticales and under barriers) where as IPSC is all about getting your mags out quickly.....there is no one system that will work for all!
 
I'll be taking the course in a month. I got two individual Blackhawk mag pouches and last week my instructor looked them over and said "those'll work just fine". Not exactly an endorsement, but there is a data point for you.
 
The CR speed ones are great, so are the blade tech ones. But... for your course using the Uncle Mikes ones are fine too. Since you are wanting to do 3 gun, not ISPC on a regular basis, you can use different gear for that. You will probably want your 3 gun gear to be "the good stuff" and just need some cheaper stuff to get you through the course. If you only plan on shooting a few IPSC matches a year, then the uncle mikes would work fine for you, so spend the money on the 3 gun stuff. Also, I recommend you buy a cheap Kydex holster for your gun so you can take the course without the light.
 
i would start with 4 pouches and a magnet. magnets hold 2 mags, and are great for stages wher eyou pick up mags off barrel of whatever. I personally don't use a magnet, because i am an idiot and i never started with one. i get by, and i am damn good at placing mags in pouches in a hurry.

Bad suggestion.Magnet is a lousy pouch replacement. Besides, the OP dont want to take IPSC seriously, so he is better off without one.

Like I said, they are not using them as a replacement for a pouch. Magnet cant give you a consistent position of magazine, which os especially important for a first mag.
Hovever magnet is handy on certain stages when you need to pickup mags and go.

disagree.. lots of shooters use these, and i know of some who have even moved to have there first couple as magnets

Exactly the magnet you should NOT be using as a pouch. The mag rotates on it, so you won't have consistent grab. In addition this is a very powerful magnet, so it is harder to get mag of it. You don't want all this for your speed shot stages.

The good shooters may not care and you also may not notice subtle details how they are using their equipment. I know several guys who have magnet, but they normally loading off the first pouch.

also some guys i know use the magnet as their last and final mag as an extra
 
I've tried the magnet and just don't find it an advantage, anything gained by being able to put a mag quickly on your belt is lost when the reload from it can't be performed as well as from a normal pouch. To be honest I got the magnet two years ago and last weekend was the first stage I shot where you really needed to stash and load where the magnet could be used...that's including several Area matches, Canadian and US nationals, and a few provincials...
