I was looking at a 3x9 x50 Zeiss Conquest with a German recticle. Anybody have any opinions on the conquest line? How do they compare as a mid priced offering? Any negatives? The name Zeiss is great, but the Conquest seems to be thier entry level product, does anybody have one? Can you give me some feedback on it? Likes and dislikes? Thanks

Would be used just for hunting on a .270 for ranges 250 yards and in.

The Zeiss Conquest line is still better than most others. The optics are great and it has been holding up on the recoil of my .338 RUM. I have a 3.5-10x44 and love it. I will buy more Zeiss Conquests in the future for sure.

how is it for fog and water proof? Clarity and light? Would you rank it alot higher than Leupold and others in this mid price range?

I have a Conquest 3-9x40, Mildot reticule and I'm very happy with it. The glass is fantastic, adjustments are nice and crisp and are also very repeatable. Haven't had fogging issues with it either. I'd agree with bearkilr that they're in line with the VX3 for most things, but IMO the glass is a little clearer.

The one thing that bugs me is the turret caps are plastic. :(

They are pretty much impossible to beat for the price and quality. If you compared them side by side in low light you will take the Conquest every time. I did. :D

They will be my exclusive purchase in the future also.

Links below rate them equal to the Bushnell Elite 4200. Not sure how they compare for price.

Exit pupil at 9X will be about 5.5. An old guy like me can't make use of that much, but a young person could.

yeah the other option was a 40 which I thought might just be "ok" but the 50 would be more flexible?

Did a sight in of a Conquest 3x9x40 this summer on a Sako A7 .270 WSM.

Excellent scope! Doubt if optics come any brighter and more sharp than that.

40mm is all anyone needs. IMHO, 50mm objectives start to look like clubs strapped to a rifle. Really doubt that 99 out of 100 could ever tell the difference regarding actual performance.

I actually upgraded one of my 4.5-14 x 40 to a 50, with a side by side comparison you wouldn't believe the difference. Way more than I expected.

The Conquest has one huge advantage, that being a fairly constant eye relief at all magnifications.I won't buy Leupolds anymore because the eye relief can vary by more than 1-1/4" with some models.

I have both Conquests and VX3's, to my eyes the Conquests are noticeably brighter at twilight then the Leupolds. Having said that I still prefer Leupolds on my harder kicking rifles, they don't seem as sensitive to proper alignment (cheek mount).

Yeah I have a 56mm on my NXS so I am use to the light, thought a 50 might seem small compared to that.

I've got the (recently discontinued) 1.8-5.5x on a .375H&H, and it's lasted over 500 rounds with no problem. The optical quality seems to be the equal or slightly superior to a vx3 Leupold, and the almost-constant eye-relief is a nice feature...but, as someone mentioned, those plastic caps are very disturbing. I used it as my primary scope in Africa...but I had a pre-sighted-in Leupold as a backup, for peace of mind.
