Edit - I Googled the story and found that the story is not fully accurate. See the comments at ht tp://w ww.findmeahunt.com/blog/2011/01/07/saddle-hills-alberta-big-grizzly-bear/

Looks like the bear was shot in Alaska. I will leave the original email story as part of the post for future reference. I have not seen these pics posted here so enjoy.

[FONT=&quot]Big Bear shot Saddle Hills Alberta, Sept 20/2010

These two gents were calling elk in the Saddle Hills south of Woking when this big guy slipped in on the caller theShooter spotted the bear 8 yards from the caller and dropped him with 5 shots out of his 338 Rem Mag.

Farmers in the area knew about the Bear but weren’t able to track after it had killed 3 horses, 5 cows, 13 sheep and a pen full of chickens on several different homesteads in the area.

Fish and wildlife had bear traps set up in the area but noticed on surveillance video that when ever a he would enter his hump would hit the top of the culvert trap slowing him enough that the trap door would wack him on the head before he was all the way in. Check out the scar tissue on his face.

[FONT=&quot]Bear weighed in just under 1300 pounds and would have stood 11 ¾ feet tall on its hind legs.

OMG that would be one hell of a mount... Picture that in your man cave, just need cathedral ceilings and that would be one sweet whole mount up on its hind legs towering over the room. Or heck you could make a rug that would fill your whole living room...

I googled this and found the following:

Seems the bear was taken in Alaska. I was kinda wondering about the moss on the trees, but I have not spent much time in norther ab.
I can see the saddle hills from my backdoor. No coniferous rainforests there.

A .338 Rem Mag!!?? Perhaps a .338 Ultramag, or a 700 Remington chambered for .338 Winchester.

Photos like that bug me. If you hold an ant at arms length but very close to the camera, it will look like it could eat the Empire State Building. Still it's a nice bear in what appears to be the 6-800 pound range.

This is what a 1000+ pound bear looks like . . .

I know the kind of pics you are referring to, and I agree, they are silly, but to be fair to this particular set of photos, the guys in them are seen sitting immediately adjacent to the bear (instead of way behind it) and when they hold up the paws, you can see that their own arms are bent (instead of held straight out) and you can also see their own hands and fingers for size comparison. I wouldn't put these pics in the same category as the other, exaggerated type. As for weight, I would be surprised if this bear weighs only 600 lb.

WOW! :eek:

5 shots from a 338 from 8 yds? :eek::eek:

Who was it said a .22 was all you need, it's all in shot placement and expensive "special" bullets"??? Guess they could cut open it's belly and find out. :p

I thought the same but it said the bear was 8yrds from the caller so who knows how far the shooter was standing. But ya 5 shots from a 338 from any distance is amazing.

Huge bear but I am certain of 2 things...1 that is no Alberta bear and 2 the story as printed in the email is complete BS...
