Worry about taking the Black Badge course

I'm too lazy to read past the origional post so this may have been said.

The BB course is about safety. don't worry about shooting fast or even accuratly. 1st thing is to to be safe. Basically unless you're on target keep you're finger off the trigger and don't break 90.

Things like proper grip and stance will help with accuracy and your instructor will go over that with you to some degree. As you're accuracy imporves so will your speed. work on getting good hits and then you can work on getting them fast. What my instructor told me is that the best thing to do it "aim for the big motherf*cker". basically if a target is surrounded by no shoots or partially covered by another target, don't look at them, just aim for the center of the available target and go.

I hope that gives you a little idea of what to expect and what to practice. Basically be safe and have fun! everything else will come naturally.

Ok Proflui
I am the Instructor for the BB course in Feb at WSSC, and you will be fine, dont lissen to half the guys on here, just pratice to just get use to your gun and relaxed when shooting it, we will help you within the course to safe and become a better shooter.

Glock 2010 who are you PM me because I dont know where you get your info from but it is wrong and you could scare this guy away from shooting IPSC, and if you know the rules in IPSC touching the line of the A zone scores as a A.

Proflui if you want any info with regards the BB course dont hesitate to PM me and I will help you out.

Yeah I am taking your course in Feb. This comfort me by a lot. I am just about to go to practice to shoot a A4 at 20 meter!

I've got this information right on the IPSC Ontario Website:
http://www.ipsc-ont.org/docs/bbpolicy2009.pdf

I did not try to scare this guy away but when I took my BB course, they are using the same exercise sheets. If this is wrong, please let the board of director knows about it and have them to update it please. Thanks.:)
When I took my BB course, touching the line of the A zone means a reshoot for me. My instructor just won't take it.

well it seams like your instuctor is mentoring you, not teaching your the BB course.

i disagree with alot of that stuff in the ipsc ont link, sorry but your trying to bring ppl to the sport, not scare them away,

Hi everyone. I shoot handgun for more than 1 year already but I did not shoot very often. Maybe once or twice a month. And My accuracy is only so so. Currently I am thinking about to take the Black Badge course in Feb so my local gun club will allow me to use a holster in the range if I pass the course. But the thing is that I am worry about whether my skill is sufficient enough to pass the course. Can any one tell me what is the difficult part of the course, so I can practice it in my club for the next few weeks? I know a lot of action involve movement that is not allowed in my club, but I still would like to know how far am I suppose to shoot, and how quickly do I need to shoot also. I am pretty bad when shooting beyond maybe 15 meters and I am really sucks in rapid fire. So any help is really appreciated. I am not interested in wining any matches. Just let me pass is good enough to me. Thanks.

The Black Badge is a SAFETY course. It is not rocket science, nor is it meant to be a high speed racing contest.

Be safe, and you will be fine.

Some of these people are telling you the truth, a couple of these people are talking out of their bottoms. Black Badge is a safety thing and it's fun. You will learn more in 500 rounds in a weekend than you did from your buddies and by watching movies and all that other dumb crap. It's a great time and use it to learn.

Be safe, have fun, learn stuff.

We'll get that fixed to reflect the current BB standards.
Now we know why people don't know how to score targets properly, if it touches the line it gets scored for the higher value. Period.

That would great Pat... I had asked your predecessor to update it but nothing ever happened.

Had asked for the higher value, but they want us to reshoot....can I say "NO"...:D

First of all, it is a safety course, not an accuracy seminar. But if BB instructor feel like student needed another run, it is his call and it not necessarily can be based on your hits. Besides, you've got to shoot more, you should be happy. :D

I must admit, I was pretty nervous when I did the BB Course! Really hadn't shot a pistol much before hand.....and then I had Tritium as the BB Instructor:eek::eek::eek: I crapped my pants:eek::eek::eek::eek:

For an old shotgunner, I was put at ease fairly quickly.......my patterns on the target were like a shotgun pattern:D but somehow Tritium did his MoJo Magic, and managed to get me through all the exercises.

Moral of the story, all the instructors that I have met, are able instructors. Don't sweat the accuracy part of it. Focus on being safe, and having a good time. You are surely guaranteed to learn some new stuff, and make some new friends along the way!

I dont know what all the fuss was about in this thread...

I just got intouch with the Central Alberta BB instructor. I signed up for the May course and he briefly explained whats invlolved. It's real hands on, a relaxed enviroment, and most of all fun! He said nobodies ever failed his course, he said the people that genuinely want to learn and improve will excell. It sounds like it'll be really informative and fun, I look forward to learning.

Can't wait.
