Brampton On,
Just got my mossberg tactial 22 on my doorstep !! love it so far , hear good things about it . When i opened it up there was yellow grease like material on the bolt face., i wiped as much as i could see, is it also in the barrel i couldnt tell ? Should i clean it thouroughly or will it function fine ? this is my first brand new 22 other than the one i was given when i was 10. I know that it is a pain to remove all the screws to fully remove the action i'm not looking to go that far yet. If you have any advice let me know thanks. I don't know how to upload pix yet i'll figure it out.

I would give it a little scrub, I wiped mine as much as I could and ran a few patches through the barrel. Never broke it right down, seems to work just fine.

Congrats on the new purchase!
You should always clean a brand new rifle/barrel before shooting it.
There are factory corrosion preventatives in/on it and they should all be removed before use.
Most (not all) rifles were meant to run dry. Oil and grease trap dirt in the works and can cause jams.
Go slow & have fun!!! :D

ALWAYS, repeat ALWAYS do a thorough cleaning of a new firearm before shooting it.

In the Black Rifles forum, there is a thread about someone who bought a new Norinco M4, took it down for a cleaning, and found white rags (or something similar) in the barrel and lower receiver. I shudder to think what might have happened had the owner just loaded a magazine, chambered a round, and let fly.

I didn't clean mine before shooting it. I did however check the barrel to make sure it was clear.

On that note, I did however thouroughly clean my Green Mountain Barrel that I installed on my Ruger. And I did break that one in.

Guess that makes me a hipocrit, lol

Sure won't hurt to giver a quick bore snake!!!

I took mine apart completely. There was a bunch of grease on and in the action under the stock so I sprayed it down a couple of times with brake cleaner. I sure didn't want any of that on the plastic stock! Once cleaned I applied a little lube and she has run great so far, 1000rnds or so.

In my best Napolean Dynamite impression "Lucky!". This may be one of my first purchases if the CFO gets off their lazy butt and sends me my stamped results(Nov 15 is when my instructor sent them)...
Where's the un-boxing pics? Only downside I hear about the rifle is the permanently attached carry handle and the lack of high volume mags.

What's wrong with the carry handle? I like the A-1? look. I wouldn't have minded if it was a flattop but it is what it is. 25 rnd mags are now going to arrive in February, there was some kind of manufacturing problem with the initial release.

Nothing really "wrong" with it other than the fact it isn't removable. I would like my optics flush along the top of the rifle. Great to hear about the mags, Thank you!:D

Is that your rifle? I Like! I want to add a fore end handle and holographic sights when I get one.

That's mine:D I really like the Magpul AFG, it allows for a real natural hand wrist angle. I also find the snap on cheek piece helps alot as it allows a bit of a cheek weld.

I got the Magpul from Brownells, as much as I hate to say it it was cheaper from them with shipping etc than buying it from the Magpul dealer on here:( The cheekpiece I got off the EE and the sight from E-Bay though I see a lot of them for sale in the EE now.
