Spf?

why not just say Sold and relist if funds / deal falls through?

Because SPF fits in the title a whole lot better :p

What *I* don't understand, is why it's such a big deal to replace the asking price in the ad with SPF, like it's some biiiiig secret what you were asking for it now that it might be sold!

What if I want to know what a particular firearm's going for, or what I could sell mine for... half the posts say spf and are then useless :(

I am with HeliBif on this one. I often browse the EE just to see what is out there. Whenever I see SPF where the price should be it kind of bugs me. What I normally end up doing is playing a game of the price is right in my head to try to determine what the gun sold for.

I agree with you guys totally. I have SPF on a couple ads for firearms I'm selling right now. I deliberately left the price in the ad so people can see what I was asking. There's no guarantee a seller actually got his asking price, but might as well leave it up for future reference by anyone else who checks out the ad. I don't get why the big secret with some guys. I guess one thing it does accomplish is there's no way of someone missing the SPF part if you overwrite the price with it.

Because asking price does not always reflect sale price. Think about it as listing your property for 500000$ and you sold it for 400000$. How good will the original posting price will do for you ?

Sorry, I might be wrong, but I did couple deals on EE and I always mark my items SPF until I get the full payment...

I actually think (and have used it myself) that the SPF is to relay the information that the product is sold and the seller awaiting funds. Even after the SPF is placed in place of the price, I have been PMed by buyers wanting to know who bought it or what the product was sold for, which is in reality, none of thier business. The SPF means SOLD and NO further reason to contact the seller. Why should the price be left up as the product is no longer available.

I agree, keeping the price on there is a good reference for people trying to see how much guns are worth.
Putting SOLD or SPF next to the price is much better, even if you didnt get your asking price, like most.

Real estate is a poor point of reference here. Have you ever bought real estate? Talk to your Realtor, and you can find out the entire price history of that parcel of land or that house, as well as the price history of similar parcels of land or houses. It's all available information, if you know where to look.

About the only answer to the original problem, is to pay attention to the prices that are asked on similar items as you may be interested in, and learn to recognize a deal when it pops up, or to have an idea what teh price range should be for what you wish to sell.

Yep. PITA not being able to research the stuff to be able to put a reasonable price on your goods. Not gonna change any time soon, I suspect.

Cheers

SPF helps us Moderators manage the EE section ,We can clean up the EE when the deal is done .
And Yes why is this posted in the rimfire section ?

I think SPF is very useful - I used to leave the price up but it got tedious to answer PMs from guys who didn't read the whole ad and tried to make offers or what not. As well, if the money doesn't come through (has happened a few times to me) it is too easy to put the price back up rather then re-writing the whole ad because you wrote SOLD and it was deleted prematurely.
