so im looking at getting a remmy 700 in 308, the rifle will be used for 750-1000 yard range. my question is pretty general but is there one modle of the 700 family that is preferred over another? its just gone be a fun rifle for bangin gongs and junk way out there..

from what iv been reading alog of guys have the SPS tactical, but the 20" barrel seems short for this distance (to me any way)

remmys are foreign territory to me, any one point me in the right direction?

:bangHead:

The name is Remington.

I would recommend a heavy barrel in a longer length. The original 700 BDL heavy barrel set accuracy records when in came out in the early 70's in .308..

yes yes i know its Remington :p i typed this as i was on my way out the door haha.. shoop had a 5r milspec in stock, looks like that will probably be the one i am goin with... any one know why its not on Remingtons web site? or am i really that blind?

i am pretty sure remington discontinued the r5, i handled one at IO a while back, sure is a slick piece of kit, i am in the same boat as you looking for a long range 308 rifle, probally will settle on a sps varmint and change out the stock...we should go out shooting some time...

All part of the legend.....:p

Urban Legend (proven wrong but still good marketing) is that it is made using reject 5R barrels used in military sniper rifles....they only do one run a year depending on how many reject (but still better than standard barrels) barrels they have.....not sure if there is any basis at all but still a nice rifle, have one in 308 and 223. Nice rifles.

Discontinued... Frontier (sponsor at the top) has both the .308 (5 instock) and .223 (1 instock) R700 SS 5R Milspec under their "Long Range Precision Rifles" in stock. It's where I picked up both of mine. Great service too. Very happy with both.

All of the heavy barrel 700's are great performers. The 700 5R is a really nice factory rifle. Lots of the 5R's for sale in the classifieds right now.

I chose a 700 SPS Tactical with the 20" barrel and I'm happy with it so far, shoots great with the only complaint being the Houge stock being a noodle.

In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the "art" of capitalization.

Those of you, who fall into this world, please take note of the statement below. I cannot stress enough how grammar is very important to it.

Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

I hear all bold letters is the same as yelling :) my real point is i suck at technology so please don't expect to much out of me on a computer !

On a side note you wouldn't happen to be Dennis the gun smith off Verdier ave would you??

Yooo wat up biatch the gat you needs is a rumington police model wit da 26 inch burrel un in twelve twisting. This gat rocks! Unfortunately, shooting at said ranges will require a decent scope set up, running you a tidy sum indeed.
