Do Eskimos shoot IPSC?

Cat

they keep trying to have them in Yellowknife and Hay River but so far i don't think they have been successful (they use to in the 90's.) PG is probably going to be the closest but i do know that a fellow from the Yukon recently took a BB course so maybe in the future.

you will enjoy shooting outdoors in the summer. when i was in Hay River on the "are you ready" command we would unzip the hood on the bug jacket and push it back. As soon as the gun was holstered it was zipped back up.

I dont think we will end up with IPSC here but the run and gun 3 gun stuff is really picking up. That and speed steel stuff. Closest IPSC matches to me are in Terrace. Then PG.:)

i know in the Yukon who frequent travel into alaska for pistol matches. i dont knwo if that is because there is not as many matches in northern bc/yukon or not

Trap shooters who travel between for matches, yearly RCMP vs trooper shoot each year(Whitehorse/Fairbanks) and vise versa. One pistol shooter that competes in Alaska. steel challenge/USPSA.

don,t say ESKIMO, its now INUIT!!!

Boy, am i glad to catch you early, saying eskimo(eaters of raw meat) its like using the "N" word!!!! these wonderful people are now known as INUIT which simply means THE PEOPLEw:h:w:h:w:h:w:h:w:h:w:h: if you are moving north of 60, remember there are over 100 different words for SNOW in their language, but only one for BEER!!!!! good luck POPS

I call them Eskimos because in my culture that is what they are called.

Damn it but I hate PC crap!!

Dire Straights anyone!!!!!!

What does PC have to do with it?

If the Inuit people find that to be a disrepectful term then why use it?

I would hope in this day and age we would be capable of moving past those types of references.

John

Context is important here, guys. The OP was using it as a generic term for anybody living way up north, regardless of ethnicity. There was no intent to isolate or stigmatize any single race.

Why not?

Their summer shooting season may be short but they might have, or be able to build, some indoor ranges.

John
I'm not saying that it technically can't be done. Just that it should not be done, well at least for the next 60 years. They have tons of social problems. Firearms are strictly controlled by the police up there, most of them have to sign out and sign in their firearms at the police station (not in every village though). I probably sound like a gun-control freak but believe me, I am not. They are not ready yet to be allowed to have handguns and firearms in general. What I am saying might sound strange, but you have to spend 4 months there to understand.

They called themselves Eskimo not that long ago.

True. I met alot of them calling themself eskimo. I don't think eskimo is a real word in inuktitut anyway, as the sound "e" doesn't even exist in their language.

EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry for my ignorance!!! I definitely didn't mean to offend, isolate or stigmatize any single race! Anyone that knows me knows that there was no ill-intent with this.

I find it hard to believe it is like using the "N" word. Where I live "Eskimo" means a people who live in the far north and live off the land.
