Tikka varmint barrel twist marked wrong

buddy just bought a tikka varmint stainless friday and at the range today we couldnt get it to hit paper at 100 yards after doing a bench boresight, we were shooting handloads with 80 grain hornady amax and finally got two to hit paper, it was keyholing? scratching my head thinking the 8 twist should stabalize the 80 grainer i gave him a load with 77 mk and a 50 ballistic tip, 77 keyholed also and the 50 hit centre with a nice crisp round hole. i looked down the barrel and noticed the rifling was a bit odd looking for a 8 twist so we ran a patch test on it and its a 12 twist for sure, gun is marked on the side of the barrel 8 and also on the chamber end 223/8? has anybody heard of this problem with the tikkas and i wonder how this could happen with a gun of this quality? its a bit scary and i hope they make it right for him or its gunna be a refund and a lot of badmouthing. I think he is most upset in the fact that he took it to the range yesterday to break it in and spent 4 hours just shooting and cleaning it every round for 20 and now he will have to do it again lol lol
 
Guess he didn't get quite a good deal eh? amazing you could tell something was "different" by looking at the rifling.

Others in the US have found this issue as well. If you google it you might get some info.

Just bought this exact rifle in .308 no problems though, super happy with it
 
I thought a Tikka T3 was in the same category as a Savage...they should shoot wooden bullets pushed by a good load of Kingsford charcoal...finely ground of course...into a half inch...how could the lack of spin affect this?:D
 
tikka warranty

i wonder how tikkas warranty is? another buddy of mine bought a 270wsm savage and it wouldnt hit paper at 50 yards, it was a 300wsm with the wrong stamp on the barrel, savage was very interesed in getting the rifle back and upgraded him to a stainless version for no extra cost, stuff happens but as long as itslooked after itsok i guess

Not a factory rifle, but a friend bought a "8mm" .308 Norma magnum. His first box of shells barely hit paper key-holing until they figured it out. It's a hell of a good rifle now he loads 8mm bullets for it.

These kinds of things from factory rifles are scary.

Hey Don I wrote Stoeger already about the Gun So I will see what there reply is. And will Talk to someone at Dels on Tuesday . Not a big Tikka Fan right now after today

Tikka rifles have a 2 years guarantee. The rifles are inspected according to the rules of international organisation C.I.P.

The products are guaranteed against possible defects in material or workmanship.
In case of defect, please send the gun together with the guarantee card to your local Tikka dealer or importer.

Send it back and get a new one IMO.
 
tikka barrel marked wrong

took the gun back today and the twist was wrong, the other one in stock was a 8 twist so gun was exchanged with no hassles,thanks to Brandon at Del Selin, service was top notch. Thanks
